Peoples interest in wine is increasing rapidly

Over the years, I have seen myself move from semi-sweet wine to dry white and now I am a large fan of red wine. During my journey I did some reading, gained some knowledge and enjoy the whole wine scene. Reading reviews on wine, looking at the different estates and learning a little something here and there is most enjoyable.

Brendon, a mate of mine and colleague from Yeigo, runs a wine blog. He has been doing so for quite some time now, but recently we sat down and decided to get him setup on a .co.za domain with his own hosting rather than running his blog on the limited framework of blogpost.

The Cru SA is the title of his blog. He takes his passion for life and wine, and injects it powerfully into his blog. The blog is a wealth of knowledge in the field of wine and definitely one of my more frequently visited blogs. Brendon works in the same department with me at Yeigo and I often see him working on his blog during lunch time or after hours, a great deal of dedication goes into it. I’ve heard him get annoyed with people trying to rip him off and I’ve seen him get a R300.00 bottle of wine for the quarter of the price – definitely someone to keep close by ;)

Anyway, head on over the his wine blog and have a good read!

Haha, classic re the email icon :~P

Site is looking great bro, couple more days of working it and it’ll be looking perfect.

Ye, I should have mentioned that you were working on it and that it wasn’t completely finished, but ya, let’s get some traffic going though!

Chat to you soon! LOL *looks left, aaah there you are*

  3. Rox says:

Just had a look now – awesome job Brendon, and Chris for his ever-brilliant tips. :-)

P.S. Just a thought, didn’t see Wine Diva on the blogroll, she’s got a cool ‘for the girls’ angle which would go nicely with the cru.

  4. Chris M says:

    Hey Rox,

Ye, the site is starting to look great and once he’s happy playing around with it, I will start teaching him how to take a good niche approach with the blog, increase the search engine optimization and hopefully we’ll be able to monetize the site somewhat. It will be an interesting journey!

He’ll prob pop in and see your mention of Wine Diva, otherwise I will tell him tomorrow at work.

Thanks for the comments Rox – How’s things in the City ;)

  5. Rox says:

Nothing better than niche blogs hey, another suggestion (if he hasn’t already) is for him to do some affiliate marketing or decent PPC advertising – it’s a perfect platform for this.

Things are kinda hazy in the City, lol… but it’s almost weekend so no worries! :-)

  6. Chris M says:

Yes, we will get onto PPC and PPA marketing, but not just yet, I have a far more beneficial tactic for him to try out :)

Stay posted babes, it’s going to be a wicked journey – Web 2.0 style :P

Hazy in the City for me too – I’m glad it’s Friday tomorrow, I look forward to the weekend!

  7. Rox says:

Ooh, sounds exciting – will definitely stay posted. :-)

P.S. All this wine talk has made me wish i had a nice Sav Blanc instead of Woolies Strawberry & Cranberry… but on painkillers and antibiotics for an ear thing, so there goes that idea!

  8. Chris M says:

Painkillers and antibiotics and some wine = fabulous! Haha, what a night you could have ;)

I must grab a bottle or two tomorrow after work, I have the feeling that I will need to drink this weekend!

  9. Brendon says:

thanks for all the advice and enthusiasm! will do my best to make the Cru as useful as possible! we need more people drinking wine in South Africa!

i need a bottle right now after finding out my laptop has been stolen from under my nose….at the office! crisis!

  10. Chris M says:

Ye Brendon, a good bottle would go down really well right now, I have to agree. I’m going to pick one up on the way home.. what was that name you suggested? Ka.. ?

  11. Brendon says:

Raka – Figurehead, Quinary or Biography Shiraz.

All about R80 and well worth it.

  12. Rox says:

Shame man, I hope you find your laptop – or the f***ker who stole it! What a thing to happen on a Friday. :-(

Hmmm… IF i wasn’t in such a over-the-counter haze, I’d so be in the mood for a bottle of Juno, aka my New Favourite Plonk.

  13. Chris M says:

Ah, nice one bro, thanks a stack :)

  14. Chris M says:

Rox.. it’s almost too hectic to believe, looking at the structure of our office and the fact that there were people inside at the time – it’s amazing it happened.

Plonk! Hehe, great word, I wana be plonked by the time I go to bed tonight!

Got something to say? Go for it!
