Over the festive season, we find ourselves with long lists of things to do and very little time to do them in. This leads to faster driving than usual and we all know what happens when we see a bright purple flash! I’ve been trying to drive the speed limit over this festive season as the speeding fines are just increasing and increasing and the thought of paying off a massive fine is the last thing I need right now.
I did some googling around and came across some interesting stories about speeding cameras, which were being destroyed obviously by angry drivers, who have been busted for speeding. I’m surprised that this doesn’t actually happen more often. Destroying one of these cameras would only take a matter of moments – throw some petrol and light a match, it would be as simple as that. I guess it’s a good thing that this doesn’t happen, imagine how wreckless the driving would once again become! Here are some images I managed to find online, please excuse the bad quality, but there really weren’t too many available, so I had to settle for what I could find.
Let’s hope that this doesn’t become a common trend. As much as I hate paying speeding fines, I feel it is still necessary to have these cameras in place!

Having just spent two days on the road I can tell you that the cameras don’t really deter a lot of motorists Chris. Let’s jut hope that the money they raise this way goes towards the upkeep of roads and trying to make it safer for all travelers that way?
Two days on the road, wow babe, that’s hectic! And the heat doesn’t really help the matter does it! They should pool all the speeding fine money to fix all the roads, i think that would be a great idea!
Hi, Chris,
Just wanted to tell you and all your readers of the forum that there is a book out there called;
“How to get off your Speeding Fine – LEGALLY!”
This manual contains all the legal information in regard to the rules governing the implementation of Speed Law Enforcement. It enables you ensure that when you are accused of a speeding, the prosecution against you is absolutely legal and correct and that the laid down requirements pertaining to speed trapping were all correctly in place and if not, how to get off! It also talks about unfair practice by the traffic cops themselves!
It’s written by a retired ex cop who knows all the loopholes and is willing to share them with you.
It gives you everything you need to know about speed traps AND roadside arrests for non payment of fines! It shows you how some of the traps are totally ILLEGAL! – I have successfully used this manual to get off four of my speeding fines! This book can save you a lot of hard earned money! I paid R65 incl P&P for it and it gave me some good laughs as well. Excellent book, lots of info, well worth it!
I got mine from VIA-CON
The cell number is; 083-497-6770
Their email address is via-con@hotmail.com
Good luck and keep the forum going! It’s a very good and necessary platform for discussion.
Regards – Dennis.
Awesome Dennis!
I shall blog this immediately! I would love to get my hands on that even just for a good read, as I can imagine it’s full of great juicy loop holes!
Give me a few minutes and there will be a blog post about this.
Shot!
Hey Chris,
I’m surprised that this doesn’t happen as much in the US as it does in the UK. Then again, we’ve got vastly more red light cameras than speed cameras.
Anyway, your post got my curiosity up and I googled “vandalized speed cameras” and found this:
http://www.speedcam.co.uk/gatso2.htm
…looks like it’s become quite the trend, actually.
Oh wow, that’s a big collection of defaced cameras! Good find.
I hate getting fines, but honestly, I’d prefer to have the cameras there and be fined than having someone drive into me at a horrid speed!
Hey Chris, after being an avid Top Gear (and 5th Gear when desperate for my fix), there seem to be many different ways to quickly prevent a camera from working…
Clear lacquer/varnish spraypaint, which drys clear, but renders any picture useless…
Already mentioned petrol/fuel + lighter.
Expanding foam, with those little nozzles, can be squeezed into opening’s on some of the camera’s still used, rendering them rather broken.
Shoot it.
I’m sure there are websites devoted to the destruction of speeding camera’s, I’m not personally advocating any of it, but after seeing how useless they are in Cape Town, what’s the difference? I ride a motorbike some of the time, which some of you might know only have a number-plate on the read, rendering most of the front-facing camera’s in Cape Town useless, which allows me to drive through them whatever speed I like. I would say that 50% of the time the camera’s dont flash, so what is the point really?
Haha, ye, I’ve heard of plenty of tricks, but they’re not legal and imagine you got caught? Ouch! ;)
