From blogging to jogging – Part 1

Today marked day 1 of my conquest to get off my butt and start jogging in the evenings. Those of you who know me, know that I spend an awful amount of time at my computer and the only exercise I get is, well, let’s not go there, but it rhymes with exercise ;)

Running Track

As a fashion conscious person, when it came to going for my jog, I realised that I didn’t have anything really fashionable to suite my new conquest, which put me on a negative start before I even stepped out my place! I managed to find some shoes (will be purchasing a proper pair of trainers shortly), a pair of shorts, a tee and a pair of Oakleys. Oh, and of course my mobile loaded up with Wisp – In a Blue Face!

I set off just prior to 19h00 and had set my watch to do 15/20minutes. I want to start slowly and not push myself too much, I smoke like a chimney at the moment and am extremely unfit, so I felt I should start small and then build over the weeks. I managed to jog the entire 15minutes away, which I was very happy about and a few seconds later I was in the pool gasping for air! I’m not going to lie, I almost died!!! I can feel the muscles in my legs taking a bit of strain, my butt has definitely been worked and am petrified for my heart! But I feel good though and I guess that counts most. Well, I say that now until I wake up tomorrow morning! ;P

I will be jogging for 15/20 minutes for two weeks and then will hopefully increase it to 25/30 minutes for another 2/3 weeks. If I can get to a point where I can jog fairly easily for 25/30 minutes, I will feel as though I have achieved something.

Why am I doing this? Well, my goal is purely health related, I fortunately don’t need to lose weight or anything like that, I would just like to increase my fitness and health for a couple months to see how I feel afterwards. I’ve heard fantastic stories from many of my friends and am inspired to push through an aching couple of weeks to feel great!

I’ll be giving a daily update, so stay posted!

    Go dude! I’m lank impressed..

I think it’s great that you getting some exercise. The trick is to keep at it – no matter how stiff u are tomorrow or don’t feel like it, just keep jogging, even if u go for 5 minutes. It’s beating that mind game. :)

Thats the hardest thing about exercise – is to keep to the routine, once u got that behind you, you than truly start to reap the rewards.

I’m looking forward to your posts!

Yay, another runner to swop tips with! Soon you’ll be posting about heart-rate monitors and interval training, yay.

It’s super addictive once you get into it, and is so good for so many reasons – excellent move indeed, look forward to updates. :-)

Chris.. you’re 100% correct, it’s about persevering and sticking too it, which is what I plan on doing!

My legs are pretty sore actually and I fear how they will feel tomorrow, but that’s life, c’est la vie! I’m going to get some nice trainers too, think that’ll help, like if I spend the money, I ain’t wasting it! I also need to learn how to job, like what speed to run, cos today I think I ran a bit too fast, which I’ve been told isn’t necessary?

    Thanks Louisa! :x

Rox.. totally, the more people doing it, the easier it is to stick to the plan and motivate each other. I guess that’s why running clubs are so good! Although, I do prefer my tunes and peace and quiet ;)

I look forward to being addicted to it and honestly, the pain I’m feeling, is a good pain!

Thanks for the encouraging words people, I really appreciate it!
