Starbucks have taken onto the trend by running an interesting website where by they give their fans the chance to express what they would like in order to shape themselves according to customer needs.

One of the top ideas at the moment, which people are voting up heavily is:
Starbucks needs to make ALL stores have free Wi-Fi. In Seattle I go to Tully’s, because of the free Wi-Fi, not superior service.
Great idea and definitely something all these coffee shops need to think about. Free WiFi would encourage users to come and buy coffee. I was thinking perhaps something along the lines of – for each X amount of money spent would give a customer X number of free minutes on the WiFi.
I think Starbucks have embraced the web perfectly with this idea and stand a chance to outrun most of their competitors!

Not the newest of ideas. In Singapore, i managed to book movie tickets online while traveling in a bus, cos even the public buses have free wifi connectivity. I cant even think of a single place in SG that DOESNT have free wifi!
Theres a place in the Gardens CT, called Wembley Square, very chic and offers free wifi, brilliant response from businesses using the restaurants for meetings.
Ye, true, but that was just one of the ideas, related to the Internet world, but there are thousands of others – the point was more about the way Starbucks are embracing the Internet as a valuable tool.
Ah yes, Sinns – I am in and out of their all the time for meetings, love the place :)
Doesn’t Seattle on Kloof also have wifi? Think it’s free as well, another place is Arnold’s.
Starbucks is brilliant in their marketing overall, their brand development was even in ‘The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding’ book. It’s awesome that they keep pushing their rep further like this.
Most coffee shops have WiFi, including Seattle, but it’s not free and not too cheap either.
I’ve unfortunately never had a chance to try Starbucks, but I’ve heard all the raving about it. I don’t drink coffee anymore either, so I’m not sure if I’ll get the chance :P
Ah ok, I still think Arnold’s *may* have free wifi, but I may be wrong.
Anyway, I haven’t had Starbucks either – I can’t even think if and where they have one here, by the Waterfront I think maybe.
I could probably give up coffee if I really had to, but I would rather take my chances with caffeine and stay off sugar and wheat. :-)
Free WiFi is so useful, Sinns at Wembley Square has free WiFi, I know that much.
I thought Starbucks was strictly overseas, I don’t think there is one here in fact, which is a pity.
Hehe, ye, I just found that caffeine was not doing me a wealth of good :)
Hehe, that just shows how little I know – I only drink Seattle coffee (and even then I only drink their Irish Latte’s).
Anyway, the chances of SA brands following suit aren’t all that good at this stage, already most similar places like Seattle or Vida have way over-priced coffee, so free anything isn’t too likely. :-P
Seattle tastes great, must admit that I do prefer Seattle to Vida.
Vida has branded themselves excellently, and afaik they do offer WiFi, but honestly, these place could easily offer free WiFi, it’s not that expensive and they could tie it into a persons purchases, or if they use their card X number of times. I honestly am at a point where no matter where I go, I want WiFi – they need to jump on the band wagon and get this going, the world is moving online, they got to keep up with times!
I was a HUGE fan of Seattle in Rondebosch a few years ago. i left and came back to find the whole star shop missing. Thought they bailed on us, didnt know we still had a Seattle.
Vida sucks. nicely branded and very much a image thing more than a coffee thing.
Starbucks isnt that great! Had it in a few different countries and always tried different items on their menu.
Their cold coffees are the only thing worth mentioning, but only if you spend the extra cash and ask for extra syrup and a scoop of ice cream as well. otherwise, its pretty blah!
Im a coffee nut, and so far not very impressed with the general coffee scene in CT. However, there is this place in teh Gardens Centre, upstairs opposite the Red Square that sells a KILLA dbl espresso!
When wifi fails, whip out your phone and startup Opera Mini!
Seattle in Kloof was a great place, but I tended to go to Vida as they had the outside seats and was a great meeting place, etc. But yes, Vida coffee tasted shitty.
Starbucks.. ah ok, I’ve heard people rave about it, but then again, I’ve heard people rave about Vida too.
I’ve given up coffee, so I ain’t too interested anymore, but I must admit, when I was drinking 4 double cappachinos a day, it was fun ;)
Opera Mini FTW!
Would actually be gud to find where ppl get their secret AWESOME cups of coffee from.
The ENGEN garage in the Gardens, with the Woolies, also sell a mean espresso!
Mr Delivery as also embraced the web in a big way, with online ordering. not something that is easy to manage from a protocol point of view, but they’ve managed to get it going pretty nicely!
I used to have the most awesome cappachino from the Yeigo coffee machine, rented from Lavazza, I think. Apart from being free, it was really delicious. I also occasionally used to get a mean coffee from the Wild Bean at the BP Petrol Station in Pinelands :)
Mr Delivery is definitely leaps and bounds ahead of places like Scooters, Butlers, etc. in terms of online presence and availability.
Whenever I order takeout, I would naturally use Mr Delivery just because of their website :)
