The Ford Motor Company Global Auto Car Shows and Concept Cars website is built on WordPress – This is absolutely amazing! A mate and I were looking around earlier at some Ford Skylines when we came across the site:
WordPress is moving in leaps and strides and if International brands such as Ford are using it (well, their designers at least), then it just proves the power it has! On a daily basis, I read new information on WordPress and after programming my own plugin, as well as seeing some of the latest themes coming out, it’s clear that WordPress is taking over a massive part of the market share in terms of CMS systems!

No surprise there, dude.
A lot of people think that Joomla is a really powerful CMS. I’m not so sure anymore. I like to think of myself as someone that can sit down with a program, poke around for a few hours, and generally get the hang of it by the end of the day.
Three days in, and I start becoming proficient. Joomla’s been sitting on my machine for almost two weeks and it’s still bloody impossible to use.
WordPress has two things nailed down well. First is the focus on content – hence it’s popularity as a blogging engine. Second is the sheer power of the theme system.
I recently started putting together a wordpress theme for a new site, and I decided to create a customized sidebar – no widgets. It was painfully easy, since you can create as many PHP functions as you want – and make them do what you want – dump them all in functions.php and call them from anywhere in the theme.
We’re not even at plugins yet – the full array of which puts assumed giants like Joomla in the shade.
And WordPress is just that easy to use. Ever tried adding a blog post on Joomla?
D’: <– Me, 2 hours in, trying to deal with Sections and Categories and Publishing Rights and Front Page Display and threading and … ugh.
Yes, WordPress really is proving itself as a CMS, not just a blog script :)

I just found it really impressive that some big label brands are moving to WordPress over frameworks such as Joomla, Drupal, Expression Engine, etc. It’s lovely to know that the big boys are using the system we all use, and on top of that, that we all know the system so well!
I’m slowly working on plugins, I have a second idea for a plugin I’m going to start working on, will let everyone know about it soon :)
@Wogan – I know the feeling about Joomla being super frustrating. but its all teething problems mate. Im pretty new to it myself, and it had me by the balls for the first 2 weeks, but once i figured out how it all works its a breeze now.
Ive also got a worst case workaround for all those things that wanna get up but dont have time to figure out how to in Joomla.
Build in std PHP, add to server, and call that page on your own domain as an iFrame. works like a charm! :)
Joomla is tricky, but once you get your mind around it, it’s very powerful. I built the Yeigo.com website on Joomla and it was very efficient and manageable!
iFrames are scary things, I try and avoid at all costs. Your site and the use of iFrames does work nicely though, thumbs up to that HoTsTePPa!
It’s the first time I commented here and I must say you share us genuine, and quality information for bloggers! Good job.
p.s. You have a very good template for your blog. Where did you find it?
Hi mssmotorrd, I’m glad you’re happy with my site, the theme is my own design :)
