iMod wins Best SA Blog about Technology & Web Development

Dreams do come true! Blogging has been a passion for more years than I can remember and tonight it all paid off when iMod won an SA Blog Award for Best South Africa Blog About Technology / Computers / Web Development.

I normally sit down to write a blog post and my fingers start going and they just don’t stop, but tonight, on this very special night, I really have so little to say. Firstly, I’m somewhat blown away by the award – I was nominated for three awards categories namely: Best SA Personal Blog, Best SA Entertainment Blog & Best SA Blog About Technology / Computers / Web Development, now most of you know that professionally I am a programmer and search engine specialist, but I honestly thought that I had a chance for Best SA Personal Blog and really didn’t think that I would win for the Technology / Computers / Web Development. The first prize up was for Best SA Personal Blog and Tertia took it for the second year running – I was standing there cursing under my breathe and then all of a sudden I hear iMod being called out, I honestly couldn’t believe it. A number of people laughed at me and sort of said.. “Duh, obviously that category”, which interested my, oh well, very happy with it! Well Done Tertia!!!

To everyones surprise, there were actually a couple prizes – Each category winner won a Bottle of wine from Warwick Wine Estate as well as a tree (yes, a tree) from Stodels Nursery. Then for a few select categories, there were bigger prizes – For the Technology / Computers / Web Dev category – I won a Dell 20″ Flat Panel Monitor, sponsored by Dell and the Best Overall SA Blog won an xbox 360 if I remember correctly, so I’m super stoked!

SA Blog Awards Prizes SA Blog Awards Prizes

The awards were fantastic and I’m not going to go on about the function, but I’d like to thank everyone for a fantastic night as well as an even bigger thank you to everyone who voted for me – It’s all of you who made this dream come true and I’ll never be able to thank you enough! I realise I should probably be sending track backs to everyone I saw at the awards, but I’m honestly exhausted and do have work tomorrow.

This is possibly one of the happiest nights of my life :)

  7. Chris M says:

@HoTsTePPa – I don’t think I can afford you mate! ;) Hahaha, I do want a header redesign though, perhaps something a little more aimed at the award category as well as incorporating Table Mountain and something in my life, but I’m a developer and logical thinker, so I can’t design it myself :(

@James – Thanks a mil! I got a voucher from Dell for the monitor, I will have to call Dell and arrange to have it delivered :)

  20. Lyall says:

    Well done… :)

  21. Chris M says:

Thank-you everyone for the wonderful comments, it’s lovely to be praised for something of this nature and hopefully I can return my thanks in the form of interesting posts.

@Charl – Thanks bud! There’s plenty of tech posts on this blog, but remember.. the traditional format of a blog is a personal online journal, things have changed, but I still stand hard on the fact that a blog is meant to be personal, with a flair of the writers interests and that’s exactly what iMod has done :)

  22. HoTsTePPa says:

Fair enough personal interests need to be expressed, but just as long as it excludes Celine Dion or any other large fore-headed Canadian has-beens! ;)

But the mix is good though, it least it allowed you to be nominated in 3 categories, which is a shit load better than being nominated in 1 category and winning that.

  23. Chris M says:

Haha, you would want Celine Dion gone wouldn’t you ;)

The blog is definitely not entirely technology based, but having a look through my stats for most popular posts in terms of reads or comments, some of the highest ranking posts are technology based, which proves that there are plenty of tech related articles.

HoTsTePPa – I agree, it’s nice to have a mix and it’s even nicer to be nominated for three categories and win one, than being nominated for only one and winning that – wider spread, more mention, more return, bigger audience, blah blah.

    Thanks for the comment bud!

Sure thing Joey! At least the public know that the staff at http://www.formfunction.co.za are cooking the industry!

Thanks Handy Tech Tipper, was over at your blog the other day, but it seems like I can’t leave comments on your posts, as I tried to, but no such luck.

I really appreciate it HTT, thank-you!

  50. Ina Wessels says:

Chris, from time to time I read your blogs. The last time I read you recommend Google Adsense as well as Synergyas profitable money making schemes. (Ek is eintlik Afrikaans, so ek hoop jy gaan my Engels verstaan) Any way, I am not impress with them. First of all, it is meant for people with blogs or websites with a big traffic, definitely not for beginners. Secondly, after I registered with Synergy the only thing that happened was that they have bombarded my inbox with emails.
Now, Google Adsense, THIS one is really bad. I am copying the standard problem people have with them and seems to me there is no way of contacting them directly if you have a problem. I joined them years ago and received this message when I try to claim moeny they owed me. And if you go to their forum you will see i’m not alone. So, no, i will never recommend either of these two to people.

  51. Chris M says:

Thank you for your comment Ina, must have been a long time ago that you read about Google Adsense and the likes as I haven’t blogged about anything like that for months if I recall correctly.

That being said, when it comes to making money online, the options are limited, especially when it comes to systems that get you started right away. Targeting advertisers is the best way to do it, but not everyone is able to do that so I share other options, at no point do I feel they are the best options, but they’re certainly the easiest, and I apologize if you misunderstood that.

I have used Adsense for 5 or 6 years and receive a cheque every single month without a problem, so I guess it works for some of us, and unfortunately, not all of us.

Thank you for your comment and support!

  52. Ina Wessels says:

And thank you for your prompt response, Chris, I think you are really one of the few decent guys on the net. Believe me, I have lost so much money to some “nice” blokes who convinced me to buy into their schemes that it will take me a life time to pay off my credit cards. And I can say in all honesty I haven’t made one cent EVER. Not your fault though and I didn’t mean to be ‘bitterbek’ with you! As I’ve said… I think the world of you. Your responses to other bloggers are always so well mannered and good natured, I really think you’re one of a kind. Just a pity I’m an old woman, just kidding!
    Thank you again
    Ina

  53. Chris M says:

My pleasure; sorry to hear you’ve had such a tough time, the Internet is a difficult place to make money, and with all the schemes that promise the world, the good ones unfortunately end up getting taken down with the rest.

Got something to say? Go for it!
