Fight scene and attempted break in at the Kimberly Hotel on Roeland Street

Ok, so I’m falling asleep and I hear fighting 16 stories down on Roeland Street. Upon looking out, I see about 10 men fighting in the road, hitting eachother with poles and then proceeding to bash all the windows in on the lower level of the Kimberly Hotel!

I quickly called 10111 and was given a number to call the Cape Town Police Station – I spoke to a very helpful lady, who alerted the police men nearby. About 4 squad cars arrived literally 2 minutes later, unfortunately the offenders had made a run for it already!

There’s a number of people down there at the moment, including several police vans and a number of local residents. I have no idea what triggered the whole event, but I’m darn impressed at how quickly the police arrived at the scene.

Well done SAPS!

PS. I did grab my mobile and started to film it all, but unfortunately the quality is too shocking to make out what’s going on :(

    Hi Chris

Now, the question we have to answer is this: What the hell is the Flying Squad actually for? We were all taught to memorize that number as kids … but I have yet to find someone who got through to the Flying Squad and had their emergency dealt with.

I have on a few occasions needed to call the Flying Squad only to be told to call the local police station. On my last call, I called the Table View station, to be told they’re too busy and they gave me the number for CHUBB!

Since I am a client of CHUBB Security, I now have their number on my cellphone and will in future call them directly.

BTW, saw this yesterday … http://www.home911.co.za … interesting concept.

@coda – I decided to leave that part out, I was just pleased that they arrived :)

@Tony – Yes, I called 10111, and asked for the CPT branch and was told to write down a number because they couldn’t patch me through, now I think that’s a little dodgy.

Number to CHUBB? You must be joking! I suppose, I was just happy that they arrived quickly at the scene and it wasn’t too much of a mission from my side, although, I really could have done with some more sleep!

  5. You should get a better camera phone Chris. You could have been a YouTube legend right now. Everyone loves watching a good scrap, especially when there are poles and weapons involved.

    Missed opportunity.
