Google Chrome is now AVAILABLE!

Google’s Open Source Browser which is built on the Mozilla Firefox and Apple’s WebKit engines and leveraging off the multi-threading concept has just launched amongst much anticipation at GMT 18:00 today.

Google Chrome

Strengthening Google’s move towards cloud computing and operating systems, Chrome is a set to dominate the browser market with its God-like brand backing from The Big G! With Google’s aggressive approach towards cloud computing and software as a service since the launch of Google Docs and GMail, it is very evident that Google has forcibily taken the driver seat of internet trends into its own domain and is surging forward to much applause due its open source platforms.

Mills have you used it yet.. How user friendly is the browser and dose it display the code correctly?

  2. Chris M says:

Yo, I actually haven’t installed it yet, but know a couple people who have and they’re all very impressed thus far. There’s a lovely task manager as well as multi threaded processors, which works lovely for memory..

  3. James says:

I’ve used it and found it to be quite a bit quicker in some instances. There are still a couple of rendering issues (especially with the backend on WordPress, for some reason).

But, it is REALLY slick looking. If you click my link (a direct one would be a beaut, Chris ;-) ), you’ll see a few screenshots of a super cool feature of Google Chrome, namely being able to create a “desktop web-app”.

  4. Chris M says:

I’m using it at the moment and it’s fantastic, certainly a great deal better than Firefox in terms of speed and memory. The task manager is damn useful, don’t you think?

I reckon Google Chrome is going to be the Google OS in time..

  5. I got Chrome less than an hour ago.

This is like Firefox on speed.

But no toolbars. Does it do that yet?

  6. Chris M says:

I don’t think it has toolbars or plugins at the moment, but I mean, it’s Google after all, all the fancy things will come soon!

  7. Well without toolbars and stuff, it’s got a lot more room to display web pages.

Good for surfing pr0n, I guess.

  8. Chris M says:

True that! Lol, Henk wrote a rad email on porn surfing on techleader, should track it down and have a read :)

  9. Are you trying to tell us that you need help surfing for pr0n, Chris?

You really expect to float that by us???

  10. Chris M says:

Fine, bust me, on my own blog :(

    Haha!

  11. James says:

I have found Chrome quite a bit better than FF3. It is quite a bit quicker and much lighter on the old memory. I have experienced one problem though. Yesterday I experienced like periodic lag for about 5 seconds a few times. Same amount of tabs and programs open, but it only lagged when I was using the browser. Wierd

  12. @James: Actually Chrome uses more memory because each tab runs in a separate process.

I’ve also experienced lag at times. It seems familiar, because Firefox also freezes on me, albeit for a lot longer.

I really hope they can debug that bug.

If you come across any bugs, there is a feature built right into Chrome that allows you to report on it right away. See here for more details about that.

  13. The reason that it’s faster is due to the fact that it makes use of multi-task processing.

It takes full advantage of multipal CPUs and is, IMHO, the first ‘internet application browser’.

I look forward to this app fast becoming more and more like an OS.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Google launch its own ‘online platform’ from where, one day, all you’ll need installed on your PC/Mac/PSP is a little client, like Chrome to gain access to the world of Google.

    Well, that’s what I’d do anyhow ;)

P.S. Neatest feature is that the URL Bar doubles up as a search bar too (Google search Bar, obviously).

  14. Reading through the comments, I can’t help but mention: Did you know the new IE uses more memory than Windows XP OS? I shit you not.

    Thumbs up MS.

  15. Chris M says:

I’m still using FF3 to be honest, not 100% convinced by Chrome just yet, it’s hard to change something you’ve become accustomed too..

Got something to say? Go for it!
