Nokia gives away Symbian operating system to developers

Clearly, Nokia, is interested in seeing a better Internet. In recent news, Nokia announced that it would be giving away a freely available Symbian operating system to developers, who will be more likely to use the platform to generate new Internet applications.

“I strongly believe an open ecosystem wins over an ecosystem run by a captain, or I should say a dictatorship,” Nokia’s executive vice president for devices Kai Oistamo told a conference of Symbian partners and developers in London.

The pressure from Google, Apple and RIM have raised the bar for the smarphone industry, so hopefully this movement by Nokia will allow for some interesting developments!
