An Adsense record to start 2009!

So 2009 is here, Happy New Year to all of you, may each and every one of you have a wonderful year. Keep focused, keep pushing and we’ll reap the benefits.

Anyway, I’m just bursting to share the news with everyone and I know I spilled the beans on Twitter, but a great deal of you are not on there, so I can still share the news now.

Just over a week ago I commented on my Adsense possibly clocking R10000 by reaching just over $1000. Now, my Adsense topped out at $1016.95, which is a little higher than I wanted, but due to the strength of the rand, the amount will only convert to roughly R9,504.81 according to XE.com, which states that 1 USD = 9.34639 ZAR. Now, I’m obviously thrilled about the amount, especially seeing that it came over the holiday period, but I wanted to hit 5 figure blogging, so I guess the challenge will still be on for January and if not in January, then definitely February when things are right back in the mix.

2008 was an amazing year for establishing things correctly and now that I’m starting to reach figures I aimed for, the sky’s the limit from here onwards. I hope to have doubled that amount, at least, by the end of 2009!

  2. Fe says:

Well Done! You deserve it; all that hard work is starting to really pay off! :)

  3. Chris M says:

@naysh – It takes time my friend, you just need to keep going, see what works and then work more at that :)

  4. Denford says:

Eish, that’s lekker man! Shows you good guys finish first, I see even at Entrecard members are commenting that you are a friendly guy!

All this with a personal blog – genius! I will certainly be clicking once or twice every time I visit!
    Congrats

  5. Chris M says:

Hey bud, I see that you spiked nicely with a post on Muti today, well done!

Entrecard guys are great, I drive a lot of traffic to their sites and have actually racked up several thousand credits, which I really must use sometime soon :)

  6. Shaun says:

That is just mind blowing I really didn’t think people is SA could really make that much money from Google Adsense? Please can you teach me! Well done hope that amount doubles for you this new year.

  7. Chris M says:

Well Shaun, I’m thinking of running a course on how to go about doing it and charging people a membership fee, which will give them access to the information, would you be interested in something like that?

  8. Denford says:

Blimey, I would! Although, I am not even sure how to get my earnings into Zim, the local banks don’t accept US dollar cheques and for transfers you have to have a Foreign Currency Account and to open that you need a thousand bucks, they won’t open one for you just because you are expecting a thousand bucks.

I am thinking I will let it accumulate (on hold) until there is a change here, however long that takes. Do you think they would hold payment for more than year without confiscating the money or something?

I have begun to see an improvement in my adsense but nothing even close to yours!

I can pay with a permanent banner on my site though, if that is of interest!

  9. Chris M says:

I’m pretty sure they’ll hold payment for as long as you need it to be. With Adsense you can set that up yourself, I do know that.

We can’t use PayPal in South Africa, so we’re limited too and it’s incredibly annoying!

I’m keen to get the course going, it won’t be that expensive, probably around R1000.00 once off and that’ll give you access to tons of information, everything you need to get a blog set up, optimized and all of that..

  10. Shaun says:

    Chris

To be very honest yes I would pay to join but the only problem is that there are very few other people in this country that would. There is also something else I would like to ask you actually there are two things 1. How many visits do you get to your site a day? 2. Has your revenue per click gone up over time because of your blogs page rank? If you don’t want to answer me here please will you email me. Thanks Shaun

  11. Chris M says:

    Hi Shaun,

I’m thinking into it in a big way, I have tons of experience and proof of my success which will help me go about putting trust in people, but it’s going to be difficult to find enough people I think to make it worth my while..

    1. 2000-3000 uniques a day
    2. CPC has stayed much the same over the years

    I hope that helps mate..

  12. Shaun says:

I see that your average is about 14000 every 7 days that is a lot of traffic and the only way you can make that amount of money with adsense is with those kind of visitors. Now what you need to do next is build another blog with a new niche and get the same type of visits per day and you could easily double your adsense earnings. I am starting a new site soon and would like someone to go into the niche with me if you interested let me know on my email address.

  13. Chris M says:

Absolutely, with a niche the figures would be far higher indeed and it would be easy to hit my target, no doubt at all, but finding a niche is incredibly difficult these days as most of the markets are well saturated :/

    I’ll pop you an email

  14. Shaun says:

I agree with the market being saturated but there is still some money to be made out there especially if you find a niche that pays well per click.

  15. Chris M says:

Of course yes, there will always be plenty of money floating around and being injected back into the system, niche spotting is an art!

  16. Justin says:

    Excellent mate..! Well done :)

I’m also chuffed and celebrating a record start to the year on AdSense.

Like you say – ‘Sky’s the limit’

  17. Chris M says:

    Well done dude, that’s awesome!

I’ve popped you an email, let’s chat :)

  18. Justin says:

Thanks man :) Still getting over the shock a bit…hehe…but it’s a great feeling to start reaping rewards ay?

Yeh great, will keep an eye out for your mail mate, just finishing up few things tonight and heading off camping for few days so pls give me few days to respond.

  19. Chris M says:

Ye, it’s a rad feeling when something starts working :)

It’s been sent already from your contact form, should be there, hehe

  20. Justin says:

Strange, nothing received. Must be an issue with that contact form, will check it out, glad you did that..lol

Drop me a direct mail if you still want to quick mate?

  21. Chris M says:

Ye, I think something is wrong with the form, because I tried it twice. I’ve fired off an email “manually”, I hope you get it :)

  22. Dave says:

I think you should do a full post on adsense tips – how you got your ctr up and any cpc tips etc if you have?

    Would be epic.

  23. Chris M says:

Hi Dave, there are two reasons I would prefer not to do this:

    1. It would probably take 2wks to write and require it’s on website.
    2. I would basically be handing over absolutely everything I have, which would most probably result in my earnings dropping considerably.

I think that I write enough marketing/seo/monetization posts to give people a good strong start when it comes to all of this though?

  24. Chris, we love your reply in that last comment box – it’s hard work getting adsense to work for yourself – we, know and still have miles to go, as only on nearly R500 per month now, and it takes a lot of time, AND it’s difficult finding that time when one is still trying to earn an income from doing other work at the same time! It’s nice to help people, with as many tips as one can, especially in South Africa where so many people seem to be struggling to find work these days, but to stop working for yourself while tutoring somebody else is a bit much, especially if it’s free tutoring.

We help where we can, with our free tips, but can’t even say we’re good tutors yet, as still have miles to go ourselves!

Keep up the good work, Chris!

  25. Chris M says:

    Hiya,

Ye, you hit the nail on the head with this statement, “It’s difficult finding that time when one is still trying to earn an income from doing other work at the same time”, that’s probably one of the most common reasons why most people who attempt blogging and website authoring end up failing. It’s not as simple as quickly planting a seed and returning a year later, if it were, we’d all be doing it :)

    Thanks for your support!

  26. Thanks for the reply – yeah, it’s not simple or quick, but once one gets used to it, and the efforts pay off, it’s well worth it, and it’s even crossed our minds that parents who are starting to worry about their kids in South Africa not finding work when they leave school, should start a web or blog, with adsense on it, when their kids are still in grade 7 or 8, and whenever they have the chance, add some articles/pages to it, the kids can help too, in the school holidays etc, with the idea that by the time they complete matric, there may be a little bit of earnings there for them to use for studies, or to start a small business etc, or, if nothing else, the experience would have given them good insight into how they could possibly make a living from the Internet. In other words, a slow and gradual approach, but beneficial, instead of finishing matric and going “okay, what now?”

  27. Chris M says:

Content is key, building up a website full of lovely fresh content over 5+ years would result in a very good financial investment :)

Got something to say? Go for it!
