The floods in Cape Town are picking up and it’s quite scary. The lifts at my block were closed due to flooding, so looks like it’s 16 flights of stairs in the morning to get to work #fail
Kim gave me a call a few minutes ago, she’s just driven from CBD to Hout Bay and says that it’s chaos. Policemen are standing waist deep in water helping people get through!
Check these pics out..

Here are some shots from ScreaminLacey..

And these ones, from Brad, of the M3 and Paradise Motors..

Wow amazing. Look like a typical scene from the Philippines during Tsunami season. One reason why I am glad that I live in the high hills of Johannesburg.
Hectic!
Glad I live up here in jhb.
Jhb is still dirty and dodgy. At least the waters will wash away all the muck. i love this weather!
Wow, this is so hectic… I drove back on the N1 and hit some terrible puddles and saw some of the worst aqua plaining…
So sorry I couldn’t get pics of the M5 last night, going past the Riverclub. Crazy. Water must have been knee deep – could feel it under my feet while driving through the flooded area. Lots of cars stuck and plenty turning around and driving against the traffic to get to N2 coz they knew they’d never make it through (little cars…)
Feel sad for those in the locations…
@Paige – Don’t worry :) I managed to source a decent number from what you can see. Scary evening last night indeed, fortunately I’ve not heard about any casualties!
It’s incredible to see just how damaging a lot of rain can be, I bet everyone’s wishing for summer now and then we’ll have another fire and everyone will wish for winter – the irony :)
I was caught in that flood, my Mini Cooper was bobbing around Victoria road, Camps Bay! A good samaritan in his 4×4 pushed me out but the car seems to be a write off, all electricals seized!
Gosh, these pics is an eye opener. Did not think it is that bad. One can only but feel sorry for the poor people in the informal settlements living in shacks, not to mention the homeless. I guess I should start counting my blessings then.
@Chris: with regards to hearing about casualties, all I have heard about was some woman who got caught in a drain that burst and was washed around the roads… She had to be taken to hospital for swallowing lots of water. No deaths so far, thank goodness!!!
@louise: Swak one! Sorry to hear that…
Wow chris, these pictures are amazing. I was stuck yesterday in Somerset West main road and all the shops were flooded there as well. I managed to get some pictures but they are very dark as I had to use my flash and are not as good as yours. Hopefully with the sun out now, we can all dry out a bit.
@Louise – Scary!!! Shame, ye, the minute these new cars get water into their systems, they’re not going to work the same again, so sorry to hear this, I hope your insurance will cover it!
@Widaad – Indeed, while we’re all sitting inside watching TV listening to the rain, there are thousands suffering :/
@craig – Shame! Poor lady, thank heavens she’s alive.
@Wendy – I have just been sent that one photograph from Somerset West, looks like it was really bad your side too!
