If there’s one online shop I’ve followed for longer than any other, it’s ASOS – I receive all their newsletters and follow them on Twitter.
In the past, I emailed ASOS asking about delivery to South Africa, to which I got some really funny responses about South Africa being dangerous and having wildlife as well as a lack of technology – This turned into one of the funniest email threads I ever had but resulted in a “no” to my question.
Just the other day, ASOS announced that they would now be delivering to South Africa and I’m totally thrilled!
I look forward to burning the credit card a little ;)

hey Chris,
Can you just go onto the Asos site to order?
Yes Dave! Brilliant don’t you think – took them long enough!
hi,
i ordered on the 5/5/11 a coat from Asos I ma in South Africa (SA). Very early morning I got an email like 3am from Asos saying that my order has been shipped that 6/5/11. Bow im worried coz they emailed to early. Which carrier do they use to deliver to SA. I used the standard service. will i get my coat, they said I will get it by 20/5/11.has any1 use standard delivery to SA? please help im worried
Yup i have a similar problem. I also used the standard delivery option with Asos and my parcel was scheduled to arrive in 2 weeks but its been almost 4 weeks. Have u got your jacket yet. With standard delivery there is no way of knowing where the parcel is because there is no tracking facility and it becomes the SA Postal services problem (i shudder to think). I dont think i will be using that option in the future i would rather pay $20 for shipping and be able to keep tabs on where the parcel is.
Shame Lindsay, I hope your package arrives! When I order from overseas, although it expensive, I always go for the fancy delivery, we just can’t afford to take risks with our postal service.
Yup u are so right it was a dumb move. I have always paid extra with good reason but i thought i would take a chance and now its just a case of waiting and hoping. I am so mad at myself. anyway thanks for reply. Asos is an awesome store and such good value. If i had the cash i would go wild. One of my favourite online stores without a doubt is All Saints. Asos had a few pieces and i decided to check the allsaints own website out and they have amazing pieces. If u are into distressed vintage rocker style clothing then that is the store. There graphic tshirts are awesome and there leathers are amazing. They have 50% off sales from time to time and i have scored many pieces. It is definitely a find and u look like u paid a fortune for it. Classic pieces too keep for a lifetime. Oh yes and the shipping is fast. I get my things within 5-7 working days and it gets presented in this cool box. They are class man.
Hey guys
So I got my coat from Asos its amazing. after a full month but its pretty. quality very good. but i had to pay R214 custom tax from sars on 28 pound coat, sucks a bit…but I love it and I will definitely buy from asos again. but next time i will post to my house in UK and resend to SA by plain it always is cheaper when I buy like that….
Thanks for reply. That makes me feel better because i have been waiting almost a month as well so its hopefully at customs.
Hi everyone
i waited a month for my jersey.
recieved it but had to pay R335 to SAPO.
so in total i paid R800 for the jersey.
Not cool! i dont think ill do this again
Yup my experience has been similar to everyone, but i had to fork out close to R1000 at customs for my jacket. It is more than half the cost of the jacket which i am pi$$#d off about. I tell you this country and its import laws are ridiculous. Its bad enough that we pay so much for everything now they want to screw us over big time when purchasing good overseas. I also waited a couple of days after a month and then got a notice that it is sitting in customs. Boy did i got a shock. Sometime the goods get through and sometimes you get nailed. It all goes into the hands of corrupt rich politicians and the poor live in ungodly conditions. Thanks to all who replied it has been a big help and thanks chris for opening this forum up. Pity that we cant enjoy these online stores like we should because the quality and the price is unmatched. The same goods cost us x3 times as much,In the case of my jacket, but i ended paying close to the same with the customs fees. How fair is that?
i completely agree.
they didnt even notify me, i called the post office closest to my home.
in the end, it just simply isnt worth it.
i’d visit a mr.price instead. lol
reading these comments about how much customs is taxing us is quiet scary however i’ve absolutely fallen in love with the website and really want to purchase some items. does anyone know a cheaper way of getting the goods to SA? I wouldnt want to defeat the purpose of getting good quality clothing cheper by paying too much for the delivery.
@Zee ASOS ia amazing. Just that SA tax is annoying. I am graduationg soon and I need to buy an outfit. If you ahve family or friends in London, let them receive the stuff and send u from their house, trust me, i do that with my stuff, I buy a suitcase worth of clothes and get them sent….
ASOS is the worst online company ever, who sends clothes without a tracking number???
