Lately I’ve started to think that I really need to get some more exercise into my life – salsa is great, but I don’t think it’s enough in terms of strengthening muscles, so I set forth to figure out a little routine that I could do from home.
I came up with the following 4 exercises:
- Pushups
- Squads
- Situps
- Shoulder Presses
Each exercise is to be performed 15 times one after eachother, with a 30 second break afterwards and this process is to be performed 3 times. So essentially you’re doing 3 sets of 4 x 15 moves with the aim of completing this in between 10 and 15 minutes to keep the heart rate going.
Tonight was my first attempt and I’m happy to say that I managed to complete the whole routine, but not easy, my arms are burning big time and it’s quite hard to type this post!
I’m going to do this routine every night for the next 14 days and see how things go. My aim isn’t really to lose weight, but to rather get the heart pumping and increase the oxygen circulation through my body.
It’s going to take a lot of discipline to do this for the next 14 days, so please feel free to bug me about it :)

Add some dips, bridges and burpees to that then you’re set :) Also don’t force yourself to do a set amount of repetitions and a set amount of sets.. Do as many as you can, each set!
@Wikus – I agree with you on not making it a fixed number, I struggled quite a bit last night and realised that there’s no point doing damage to my body. I’ll need to look into dips, bridges and burpees – not sure on those ones :) Thank you for leaving a comment, this is encouraging! My arms are sore today :P
Ok, so I got this video via someone on Twitter earlier for burpees – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_Dq_NCzj8M :)
What ever else you may do just make sure you have a short stretching routine for both before and after your exercises.
@pbdphoto – That’s a really good point, I didn’t do that last night and it was a bad idea, so tonight I’ll warm up and warm down for sure – thanks for the tip!
Its not necessary to stretch before the exercise routine, thats proven not to help prevent injuries – stretch afterwards! However a 5 minute cardio warmup before is recommended..

Hey @Wikus – Seeing that you are the librarian (hehe), how can I do cardio from home? I don’t have an exercise bike?
You’re just gonna have to leave the house and run around the block :)
Perhaps I should catch the lift down 16 floors and walk back up then do the sets tee hee
Muhaha that could work very well. good luck with the workout thing
It will hurt, badly. Thanks mate, appreciate all your time and tips today!
