If you’ve ever tried to rank an article on Google (I’m talking about an article, not a website), you’ll know that it’s not always easy when you’re participating in a competitive niche. For example, if you wrote an article on insurance, it would be a huge amount of work to rank it well.
Google provides an Adsense feature know as Adsense for Search. Adsense for Search is a search feature that anyone can add to their website to allow their readers to perform searches on information specific to the site they are on. If you perform a search on my website (top right), you’ll be given Google results, but you’ll notice that all the results are from my domain, barring one or two adverts.
A cool way to test your articles is to perform searches on your own domain for specific keywords to see if the specific article you’re working on, will appear in the results. Now, you might think to yourself that your article will obviously appear, but this isn’t the case, especially if you have a lot of content. What this allows you to do is test some of your articles, if you can’t get them to appear at the top of the list on your own website, you’re going to have a problem getting it to appear on the top of Google’s official list.
If anything, you’ll be able to build some links from article to article and see whether a difference is happening, and this is a step in the right direction. Building links from article to article is known as deep linking and is a powerful page sculpting method used by SEOs to build page rank and authority on specific articles. There’s a cool plugin called Remind Me Deep Linking SEO Plugin for WordPress (click to download), which suggests articles to link to from the article you’re busy writing, this builds your deep links well and will help with your ranking.
Now, please understand that this isn’t the be all and end all, it’s merely a little trick that I use from time to time, but your results are biased obviously and on Google’s official site, you’ll have to do a lot of search engine optimization to rank to the same degree as on your website.
