Tomorrow I’m heading out to do some fishing and to make 100% sure I know how I’m getting there I turned to Google Maps and played around with directions, finally settling for this:
What I like most is that Google Maps shows me that it’s 68.6km from Roeland Street, which should take about 45 minutes without traffic, so I aim for about 1 hour 15 minutes maximum. That’s not all, check this out:
-
Head southeast on Roeland St toward Buitenkant St (0,1 km)
-
Turn left at Buitenkant St (0,7 km)
-
Turn right at Strand St (0,4 km)
-
Take the ramp onto Eastern Blvd (3,4 km)
-
Continue onto De Waal Dr (0,7 km)
-
Take the exit onto Settlers Way (23,3 km)
-
Continue onto N2 (38,5 km)
-
Turn left at Ouderbrug Rd
How brilliant is that?!
I can’t wait for tomorrow, I really hope that I manage to catch a couple good fish – Based on their policy it’s strictly catch and keep, which means that I might be having fish for dinner tomorrow night.
Hmm, that made me realise something – What on earth am I going to use to keep the fish in, eish! Not exactly what I want to think about at 23h30 the night before, argh!

Google maps IS awesome. I’m in East London right now, driving back to Cape Town after spending a week in Durban. Before each leg of my trip i first check Google maps for directions, see where my next stop will be and how long the drive is. I use my Garmin to get me around while i’m driving, but Google Maps on my symbian phone is invaluable in planning my trip. Cant wait for one of those new Android phones which has turn-by-by voice directions, will definitely use that over my Garmin.
Ye mate, it’s darn useful indeed! I often use it on my iPhone mid-trip when I’m not certain :) I need to get myself a GPS for my car, problem is, I have a list of things I need and unfortunately it’s getting rather long! How was your trip to Durbs?
Durbs was great, first time i’ve been there since i was a kid. We did the usual tourist thang. One down side is that the renaming of ALL roads, combined with mostly one way roads in the city caused alot of drama. Garmin, Nokia maps and Google maps couldnt help at times. The drive up we only stopped in PE over-night, was two long days of driving. Coming back we’re being more relaxed, staying over-night in East London and Knysna. Enjoying some pizza while watching the sun set at the Knysna waterfront right now. Will be back in Cape Town tomorow.
Ye mate, that’s a loooong drive! I’ve down CPT -> JHB -> CPT a couple times and it’s quite painful, but it is fun though! Enjoy your last evening there, and have a safe trip back to the mother city! :)
