Worst day ever!

Goodness me, I don’t know what I did, but clearly I did something wrong, because I paid the price today!

After a really great evening, which consisted of some pizza, good conversation and a couple great episodes of Survivor, I got to bed just after midnight – this is early for me!

Anyway, 1am arrives, I wake up in a complete sweat, my sunburn hurting, my stomach feeling awful and my head feeling completely confused. Literally 20 minutes later I was kneeling at the toilet being sick and this was followed by an upset stomach. Whilst this was going on, my sunburn started to itch, now when I say itch, I mean ITCH, as in I was almost in tears because of it, I honestly didn’t know what to do with myself (Took me 15 minutes to type a 3 line email to excuse myself from work because I couldn’t keep my fingers off my body) – apply cream, made it worse, tried another cream, no better, cold bath, temporary fix, ice, temporary fix, wet t-shirt, temporary fix. I have never in my life experienced a sensation like this before, it felt like 100,000 ants were running all over my stomach and chest! This lead to panic, which lead to more sweat, which lead to more itching, all of this whilst hanging my head in the damn toilet wondering how on earth I was going to carry on – it was 6am by now, 5 hours was my threshold.

I’m feeling alright now I guess, I haven’t been sick or had an upset stomach, the itching has subsided and I’ve managed to hydrate and even eat some toast – I’m praying the bug left as quickly as it arrived. As far as the sunburn itch goes, I bought some Caladryl from the chemist, which is what the pharmacist recommended, so I’m hoping that base will be covered.

All in all, awful day. To those who have emailed me, I apologize for not replying and for those who have called, sorry for missing your calls, I’ll get to my voice mail as soon as I can.

Anyway, my fiancĂ© experienced this bug just last week, so it’s clearly moving around and I’ve heard of a few other people who have, so take care of yourself, if you’re going into public, make sure you wash your hands before you touch your face or personal items in your house.

Hey Chris.. that sounds terribly hectic, almost like something out of a movie! Would be interesting to know what caused it, maybe something you ate? Or did you have sunstroke?

Either way glad you’re feeling better, hopefully the toilet can catch a break now as well, hehehe!

@Gregg – I can’t even begin to really describe what it was like, the title of the post says it all. As far as what caused it, well, at the end of last week, my fiance suddenly started feeling really ill, which moved quickly onto vomitting (excuse the word, I hate it) and that moved onto her needing to go to the ER for an injection to stop the vommiting – I guess I might have picked up the bug from her? I’ve also heard several other people mention similar stories recently..

Ye mate, geez, I hope to death that I don’t visit the toilet like this ever again!

Thanks for your comment mate :)

Also wondered if it was sunstroke, but if Fe had it too then probably a bug. You do sound like you get a nasty sunburn though – I had a very bad one towards the end of last year, was not fun!

Use a high factor sunscreen next time, and re-apply every few hours!

Hope tomorrow is a better day. :-)

Ye, it’s definitely not sunstroke or food poising, I’ve experience both before – Ian arrived home from work at 16h00 and is in the same condition I was this morning, so it’s clearly bouncing around :/

Sunburn is bad, argh. I’m so very careful, always (Last sunburn was back in 1998), I didn’t realise at 9h30 in the morn that 30mins in the sun was going to do this! I eventually went and got some Caladryl, which I’ve dabbed onto my stomach and it’s feeling a tad better; It’s not that sore, just itchy.

Ye, tomorrow can only be better!

Drink plenty of water to rehydrate.

As for the sunburn, I also hadn’t had sunburn for a while, then I overdid the Tan Can (stupid, I know but damn thing is hard to suss out!) and went out to Stellies afterward, so by that evening I was burning up. Because you do Tan Can nekkid, my entire back, butt, legs and arms were sore – it was horrible!

The good news is that I used a shit load of body lotion and I also got some Simply Aloe after sun stuff, and I didn’t really peel at all, and I kept my lovely tan, hehe. I learned my lesson though, have been VERY wary of both sun and sun bed since.

Now at the point where I’m ready for a top up, but this time will stick to the 6 min session and rather go twice or so – you don’t need to go often, and I would rather be pale than risk doing that again, but ye… if you’re careful and if you treat it properly afterwards, you can avoid damage.

Geez, ya, in this case I’m lucky it’s only my stomach, chest and shoulders, there is nothing worse than entire body. I’m so scared to go to bed, as that is when the itching starts :(

I’ll peal, there’s no other possibility with my skin :(

Definitely, next time I’ll use sunscreen from the get go, even if it means I don’t get a tan, I don’t care after this!

  7. Louisa says:

Shame Chris, hope you feel better soon. I wonder what it was that got you?

  8. Chris M says:

Thanks Louisa, it seems to be a bug flying around as I’ve heard from at least 10 other people who’ve been through this, most annoying :/

I am feeling a lot better, managing to tackle some work so I don’t fall too far behind!

    How are you, and baba?

  9. Man, that sucks. It definitely sounds like sunstroke to me, I had the same thing a few times before, each time it was after being bliksemed by the sun.

  10. Chris M says:

Hmmm, I’ve had sunstroke before, and this was different, perhaps it was a combination of sunstroke and the bug that’s going around..

Got something to say? Go for it!
