Vodacom iPhone Visual Voicemail

Vodacom have just launched visual voicemail for the iPhone! What does this mean you ask? Well, in a nutshell, for just R9.99/month you’ll be able to see who left you voicemail.

Let me paint a scenario: Yesterday I was talking to someone at work and was telling her that I got an important voicemail, which I needed to listen to, but I knew that I had 50 odd voicemails before that which I hadn’t listened to. In other words, I’d have to listen to 50 before getting the one I wanted!

Well, this is where Visual Voicemail comes into play, On the iPhone, visual voicemail lets you see a list of your messages and allows you to choose which ones to listen to or delete, without having to listen to prior messages or voice instructions – how totally fly is that?!

Take a look:

Just like text messages, unheard voicemails have a blue dot next to them, you can simply tap the play button next to a voicemail to listen to it.

If you ask me, this is a service that we’ve all been waiting for, for a number of years and I’m stoked that it’s Vodacom who’ve done it!

To activate the service you need to SMS “VVM ON” to 123. To deactivate the service, you can SMS “VVM OFF” to the 123.

    Hi Chris

    Cool Post *wink*

Just tried to activate mine and got an error message. I logged into vodacom4me.co.za and did a test to identify my phone and vodacom picks up that I’m using an iPhone 3GS but won’t activate the Visual Voice Mail.

Will let you know if I find a work-around.

    Tony

Ye mate, I couldn’t seem to activate mine either, guess we’re going to have to wait a couple days?

    Hey Chris,
After getting a tip off about this yesterday, I have been having a run around with this for the last 2 days, only to be called by the a Senior Vodacom Data Specialist to say that the product hadn’t been in fact launched yet, and they are ironing out some bugs :(

Ah damn, that’s annoying! Ok, I’ll bounce across and have a read of the comments, I actually tried to sign up for the service myself and didn’t have any luck, which explains it :/

    I hope it comes soon!

Can someone explain to me why this feature is a paid subscription of R10 monthly.
It is free in every other country where i have asked.
Is this just the usaual of Vodacom ripping off it’s customers or will this feature be free within the next few months.

Good question Kuba, I’m unfortunately not sure of the answer to be honest..

  7. Charl says:

    Hey guys,

I’ve tried all advice and I can’t seem to get it to work. I think it’s got something to do with the Voicemail button being linked to 121. I tried the *5005*86*#, but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

    Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks!

  8. Chris M says:

@Charl – It’s hard to troubleshoot from here, but let me explain my scenario:

I applied for VVM a while ago, but it never worked. I then sent VVM ON to 123 again and it said i already had the service. So, I sent VVM OFF through, then about 20 minutes later I sent VVM ON through again and got no response. 12 hours later I received a voicemail and it worked..

  9. AndrewG says:

Any idea if this can be enabled for the new Nexus S – especially if it was already activated using my iPhone4 ???

  10. Chris M says:

I have a horrible feeling that it’s purely for the iPhone, but I could be wrong Andrew..

Got something to say? Go for it!
