Black lace has always been around, but for a long time it had been mostly reserved for underwear, funerals and gothic chicks. Recently that has changed, as black lace outerwear has made its way back to being “trendy” again (considering the world’s dark romantic, vampire obsession, its not surprising, is it?)
Personally, I have not owned anything lacey, black and suitable to wear outside of the bedroom since the 90′s – but after a little trot around YDE the other day I am now the proud owner of a fabulous black lace shift dress by Vida (for R425).
I think the only thing to be careful of when wearing lace is to not overdo the trend or wear too much see-through lace (or you may end up looking as ridiculous as Lady Gaga at the 2009 VMA’s)
Will you be wearing black lace out this year?

I think black lace can really work well when it’s worn with something mature and stylish; too much skin or too much attempt to look sexy can totally kill the look and end up being a flop.
I, personally, won’t be wearing black lace out this your, and for the record, nor “in” either, but I do hope to see women picking up this trend.
me! me! :) I am also a proud owner of a lovely YDE lace dress. accesories and shoes to go with should be very simple. :)
tada! pretty
Awesome Desi – Which brand from YDE did you go for?
I should be asking all you ladies to send some photographs in :)
Which lace dress did you buy from YDE?
I can’t remember the brand/designer now.Trying to find it on the internet..haha.
It fits perfectly with a zip on the side, is low cut at the front, has a few buttons underneath, and the skirt part is a bit A line. very nice. the whole dress is lace and has a lot of detail so i only wore a plain bracelet and plain black heels from Woolies. :)
I wore it to a wedding last year December and then borrowed it to a friend to make a pirate copy for herself ;) i think it’s time to get it back, thanx for reminding me!!
x
Sounds like a stunning dress Desi, I hope you manage to find a picture for us! Yes, it sounds like now is definitely time to get that back into your wardrobe!
I have a couple of lace things, agree with Chris that the simple and ‘ladylike’ vibe works best. Classic, with a twist. :-)
Classic, with a twist is exactly it! Or, forgive me ladies, “A lady on the street, but a freak in the bed” vibe ;)
