F*MyFine is a new South African website, which generates tailored, printable excuse letters to help you reduce your traffic fines.

The concept is quite simple:
- Type in your fine notice number
- Choose an excuse
- Pay for the letter
- Receive the letter (digital)
- Print it
When you are choosing an excuse, in step 2, you could do the following as an example:
Speeding > Family Matters > Single Parent
The website will then create the excuse for you and provide you with a downloadable copy, which you can then send to the traffic department.
Here are the excuse pricing packages:
- 1 fine = R50.00
- 3 fines = R100.00
- 10 fines = R200.00
- Unlimited = R500.00
Something that’s great is that you have 3 payment methods:
- PayPal
- Credit Card
- Bank Deposit
So, basically anyone can make use of the service.
I think it’s an interesting idea, definitely unique and definitely useful, I’m just curious to know how it will work in the long run should the system get really busy and suddenly the traffic department is receiving continual duplicates of excuses – to avoid this, a huge number of different excuses would need to be placed inside the system.
I also wonder whether this is entirely legal, I guess it is, but it’s a thin line isn’t it? :)
Good innovative idea none-the-less.

Love it.
I agree though that the excuses will need to be varied, but amazing none the less, and at the end of the day, I don’t think there is anything illegal about it. You are entitled to a reduction if you qualify, this is just simplifying the process.
Who knows, if the brains behind it make a couple thousand, it will pay for the development and time.
Thanks for the excellent write-up, Chris. To allay your concerns about duplicate excuses, note that on top of the personalised fields in each excuse, the visual layout and some of the text elements are randomised on each render. Try refreshing an excuse preview to see some of the differences :).
We are also continually adding new excuses to keep the service fresh.

Nice!
Apparently they used the same type of software to write the three Twilight novels.
Alice – How is the website doing? Have you had people purchasing excuses yet?
Hi Chris
F*MyFine went public less than a week ago and has already received tremendous support from the public for such a far-out concept. We prefer organic growth and do not expect instant success, but we’ve had a few early reductions…not quitting our day-job yet :).
Personally, I can’t wait to hear a guy on a naked-chassis Ninja bike speeding at 120km/h on a rainy evening as he’s dramatically caught by a sneaky speeding camera flash and spews forth “Fffffffu—!” before coming to the sweet, soothing realisation of “Fu-, fu-, F*MyFine!”
Cheers

Haha, love your metaphor :)
It’ll be interesting to watch how the public receives it!
