10.10.10

Today is the 10th of October 2010, or 10/10/10!

Looking at this from a mathematical point of view, would show the following:

101010 in binary converted to decimal (base ten) would yeild 42. This number is evenly divisible by 7, the number of days in the week – 7 is lucky number 7, ironically, the number 42 is also evenly divisible by the number 6, which is an unlucky number. I’ve read that this basically poses a good and bad mix, which means the day will be normal – ying and yang, black and white, odd and even.

The binary attributes of 101010 lends itself to use by the sciences of fractals (recursive geometric shapes) and chaos theory (the butterfly effect).

Does this day mean anything special to you?

    And if you a geek and have read Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy then you would know that 42 is the answer to Life, Universe and Everything .. :)

    I didn’t notice the date until the DJ on the radio today interrupted the song to say that is was 10.10 on the 10th of 2010!

    @Marius – Ah ha, I saw a tweet mentioning something along those lines, but didn’t blog it as I wasn’t certain, so thank you for clarifying and sharing :)

    @Mike – Classic!

    If you know your ASCI character codes you’ll also know 42 is the asterisk (*) everything code.

    Seeing as 101010 in binary is 42 in decimal, you can tell that the prime factorization of 42 is 2 x 3 x 7. 42 also has a unique representation of 42 = 12 + 42 + 52 as a sum of 3 squares.

    And lastly :
    e^(pi sqrt(42))~~695295413.0301 is a near-integer, and the ring of integers of the associated field Q(sqrt(-168)) has class number 4.

    Geek out :P

    Hating WordPress right now :/ The unique representation of 42 = 1 ^ 2 + 4 ^ 2 + 5 ^ 2

    Why it went and recalced the HTML code into a square only it will now :/

    Anywho, there it is :)
