Other the past couple of months I’ve realised that I really need to get off my butt and do some exercise. I manage to go fishing quite often, but fishing isn’t really exercise per say, so I did some reading, researching and chatting to gents like Rory and Chris, both of them urged me to start, so some more research lead to purchasing a bike and going for my first ride this evening.
I had a lot of fun searching for a bike, despite the sheer cost which is going to hurt the bank account for a good few months, but when it comes to health, I can’t really put a price on that, and I see this as a decent investment.
So here’s a photo of the bike:

It’s a pretty decent bike, it’s got the dual suspension, decent components and all the bits and pieces I had hoped for, so I’m really pleased and hope that it’s going to motivate me to work hard at this.
So, this evening I went for my first ride and boy did it hurt! Haha. My legs were alright, my butt’s going to ache tomorrow, but my head spun for about 30 minutes afterwards – clearly extremely unfit. I managed to cycle 3.8km in about 15 minutes, which isn’t too shabby from what I’ve been told, here’s a snap using Strava iPhone application recommended by Rory:
Here’s my Strava embed:

What make & model is it?

Now, head over to http://www.thehubsa.co.za and prepare to have your new addiction fed like you never thought possible ;-)
@Justin – It’s a Silverback, not sure what make, but I can tell you, it’s 4 month’s rent :P
@Martin – Thank you Martin, I actually looked on thehubsa for a couple weeks at the bikes that were being sold, but eventually decided to get a new one. I’ll definitely be on the site more often now, that’s for sure :)
I nearly fell off my chair when I read this!!! Good purchase and GREAT decision to start mountain biking, such a wholesome sport!
@Louise – Hehe, is it that unbelievable? *chuckle* Ag ye, I’m worried about doing no exercise and I really don’t enjoy running, so I’ve absolutely maxed out my credit card and it’ll take a year to pay off, but wow, can we really put a price on our health? :) I really enjoyed riding last night, have embedded my ride in the post, nice around and around ride, but it was dark and I’m a noob, oh and the little red light that flickers isn’t _that_ bright! I can’t wait to see how I feel in a couple months, I might even attempt to do the Argus next year, but we’ll see ;)
Hmmm. ‘Silverback’. You should have at least gone for a Giant if you are wanting to get something cheap. Or Merida if you can afford it.
per say.. per se. Haha
