Path: The Anti-Social Social Network

Path is one of the lesser known social networks out there. In fact, its makers refer to it as ‘the personal network’. And personal it is, as you’re limited to 50 friends, all of whom need to have iPhones.

Path is quite a refreshing change from traditional social networks where we tend to try keep the numbers of our friends and followers up. Instead, it is intended for you to share moments from your life with either a photo or a short 10 second video.

You can also add lenses, which are pretty similar to Instagram’s filters, to your photos and videos. And uploading these is pretty quick. When you take a photo or a video, you can tag people, places and things. Originally, you could only share media with other Path users, but it seems that they couldn’t escape the temptation of sharing on Facebook.

You can choose to share your media in three ways. In Private can only be seen by you and friends tagged in the picture or video. Friends lets you all your friends and the friends of the people you’ve tagged see the media. Public can be seen publicly and shared on Facebook.

You can also choose to share how each moment makes you feel with the Emotion feature , and even have conversations around moments with Chat.

While it’s a great idea, it’s not enough to keep me hooked for very long. With tongue firmly in cheek, it comes across as a bit of a social network for people in therapy, sharing how moments make them feel and chatting about these moments. Perhaps it’s also a great personal network for couples.
