Anonymous hacking group goes after child pornography

Remember Anonymous? The hacking group that has taken done some of the largest websites on the Internet and declared war on the US government – you remember now don’t you? Well, things have changed for Anonymous and they’re going on a hacking spree against all websites and/or servers that host anything child pornography related.

The group released a statement, “The owners and operators at Freedom Hosting are openly supporting child pornography and enabling pedophiles to view innocent children, fueling their issues and putting children at risk of abduction, molestation, rape, and death.” followed by, “By taking down Freedom Hosting, we are eliminating 40+ child pornography websites, among these is Lolita City, one of the largest child pornography websites to date containing more than 100GB of child pornography.”

This is an interesting turn for the hacking group, but a good one – if they’re going to want to be known, but uncatchable, then at least let them do something good and although this isn’t exactly a solution to child pornography, it’s at least a preventative measure.

It’s nice to see Anon standing by their original values again for a change – this whole recent mess with Sony and the subsequent hacking of various gaming, government and legal sites left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth – especially because they so negatively impacted on the very people they stated they were serving.

If they keep going along these lines maybe I can regain a little bit of respect for them.

I agree, I can see the fun in hacking a big corporate and all, but it doesn’t help anyone, whereas this focus really will, so kudo’s to them for buying back some respect from the community.

    I think this is awesome!
It’s disgusting that any company will host websites like this, it should be illegal!

It’s such an interesting movement, because it’s a collective that a lot of authorities would love to close down, but if they’re going to make progress in stopping child pornography, then is the authorities tried to close them down, the public would stand up and shout.

    Clever collective!

Got something to say? Go for it!
