Possibly the biggest news at the moment is that Burger King are coming to South Africa. Press releases state that Burger King will open its first branch in Cape Town in the first half of 2013. Not too much more has been said at this point, but the company behind Burger King, Grand Parade Investments, plans to create 5000 jobs with the venture.
For those of you who haven’t travelled or aren’t aware of Burger King, let me tell you a little about it: Burger King, aka BK, is a global chain of hamburger joints that originated in Florida in the United States. Currently, BK reports that it has 12,400 outlets in 73 countries around the world and their move to South Africa will more than likely allow them to expand this.
What’s going to be interesting is seeing what this does to local Steers, KFC, McDonalds and other fast food joints that have been well established in South Africa for a long time now.
