I think it’s quite clear that social networks are becoming incredibly busy places that require effort to cut through the noise and find useful information. It’s for this reason that circles and lists were created, but Twitter wants to take this a step further by offering a mute feature.

Twitter Mute

“Muting a user on Twitter means their Tweets and Retweets will no longer be visible in your home timeline, and you will no longer receive push or SMS notifications from that user. The muted user will still be able to fave, reply to, and retweet your Tweets; you just won’t see any of that activity in your timeline. The muted user will not know that you’ve muted them, and of course you can unmute at any time.”

Twitter has announced that the new feature will be rolled out over the next few weeks and that it will be available to website users as well as on the iOS and Androids applications. If you’re interested in knowing how to mute a user, Twitter has updated their support documentation.

Twitter is an online social network and a microblogging service that enables users to send and read “tweets,” which are messages limited to 140 characters. Registered users of Twitter are able to read and post tweets via the web, SMS or mobile applications.
