WHATSAPP ON YOUR DESKTOP COMPUTER!

If there was ever an application I wanted on my computer and not just on my mobile phone, it would be Whatsapp. Well, that is coming true as of today (I’ll come back to this), Whatsapp have launched a web app that runs inside your Google Chrome browser. It’s unfortunately not a native application, but I really do feel that it would be a wise move for them to venture down that road as I believe it will be well supported and appreciated.

Introducing: https://web.whatsapp.com/

But can you believe it, iPhone users have been completed left out! To access the desktop version, you have to this the website link and scan a QR code through Whatsapp. Apparently due to iOS limitations, iPhone users cannot participate yet – this information directly from Whatsapp.

It really is quite a bummer that us iPhone users cannot make use of this, I hope they’ll find a solution in the not too distant future because I could really do with being able to communicate via my machine rather than mobile as I do with iMessage.

Have you managed to try it out, word out says it’s very slick…

  • This would’ve been great if it weren’t for the fact that it only works in Chrome. I prefer Safari. I only use Chrome for testing purposes. And… I also have an iPhone, so no option for that yet. Maybe they’re waiting for Apple to pass the latest WhatsApp update to iOS before they add iPhone to the list. I know there’s been a huge backlog for app-update reviews from Apple after the holidays. Or maybe we’ll get lucky and actually get a native OS X App for WhatsApp, that would be really cool!

I’m pretty sure iOS won’t be too far behind on this. I’d imagine that a much larger percentage of WhatsApp users are in fact iOS based than Android. But yeah, as David said too, I dream of the day I can WhatsApp from my MBP too. We can pretty much do everything else, include answering damn phone calls too via OSx.

  • Maybe it’s awaiting approval in the App Store? Would love this feature!

There is a problem with devices that have a display smaller than 4 inches! Mini screens cannot tap the “OK, got it”-button to make the instructions of the built-in-scanner for QR code (from Whatsapp menu) go away. Let’s hope for a Fix in a later version soon
