Color Paper: a free professional WordPress theme

Smashing Magazine looks for designers who are interested in having their themes featured in the magazine. The only catch is that the theme must be a freebie and of high standards.

Big problem with the MacBook trackpad failing!

I’ve been searching the net for the last bit after a friend of mine mentioned that every 50 or so clicks, the MacBook trackpad freezes for 5 to 10 clicks and then works again.

As you can imagine, this is a huge problem for Apple and one which is going to result in thousands of MacBooks being returned! There’s a big discussion going on on the Apple Discussion Boards, so head on over there if you’re interested.

At the moment I can’t find too much more information, so I’d be interested to hear if any of you have run into this?

Google Alerts via RSS feeds

All of us web junkies use Google Alerts and if you don’t, then you’ve missed out on a serious piece of technology and should really take a read about what Google Alerts is all about!

Google Alerts would arrive in your inbox, each time a certain word, name or URL was mentioned on the Internet, as you can imagine, this is a fantastic way to follow something such as a trend, company, person or piece of information. For example, I follow imod.co.za, so whenever my website is mentioned online, I get an email telling me so.

Google have just released Google Alerts for feed readers. What this means, is that you can now receive your alerts via an RSS feed rather than an email, which is pretty darn useful!

Another two wicked features are:

1. They’ve made alerts faster (is this even possible? ;))
2. They’re including images in News alerts!

Head on over and manage your alerts now!

Download the songs you hear on last.fm

If you’re like me, you’re a last.fm fan, who streams music all day long. I’ve often thought it would be damn useful if I could download the songs I was listening to, to load onto my iPod and then listen to when I’m away from my computer. Well, it’s possible now!

LastSharp is an application, which allows you to do just this! Just remember, it’s a .NET application, so you might need the runtime libraries if you run into problems.

Once you’ve downloaded the application, log in with your Last.Fm username and password, and enter your search text – results are displayed neatly in the “Tune In” box. Downloading is as simple as checking the songs you want and marking the Continue Downloading Automatically option (otherwise you’ll be grabbing them one at a time).

There’s one other catch, it’s in German!!! The latest version is 0.3.6 and you can click here to download it via RapidShare.

WordPress 2.6.3 and a call for icon designers

From the WordPress Blog:

A vulnerability in the Snoopy library was announced today. WordPress uses Snoopy to fetch the feeds shown in the Dashboard. Although this seems to be a low risk vulnerability for WordPress users, we wanted to get an update out immediately. 2.6.3 is available for download right now. If you don’t want to download the whole release to get the security fix, you can download the following two files and copy them over your 2.6.2 installation.

1. wp-includes/class-snoopy.php
2. wp-includes/version.php

In other news, WordPress is looking for icon design gurus. With the launch of WordPress 2.7 around the corner, they’re pushing forwards hard and seek our help!

“We’ll need icons for each of the main navigation sections, plus a matching pair of list/excerpt view icons for the table screens like Edit Posts. That’s a total of 13, and for the navigation icons we’ll also need a larger size for use in the screen headers. Some of the sections have natural iconography, while others may be more challenging. The sections are: Dashboard, Posts, Media, Links, Pages, Comments, Appearance, Settings, Users, Plugins, Tools.”
