Excellent 3 part series fly fishing for beginners

I’ve just bought myself a fly rod and I’m heading out to a dam tomorrow to give it a go. I did it once before, many years ago, so I can’t remember exactly how to cast works. I went into my folks garden and practised a little and I think I got the drift of it, I furthered this by watching these 3 videos, which taught me a huge amount:

Fantastic series isn’t it?

Let’s hope I learnt enough for tomorrow ;)

If this isn’t enough, here are two more:

UPDATE: I went and did some fly-fishing, click here to read about my experience.

Some wonderful fishing locations with videos

I’ve been looking into some new places for fishing and whilst doing so, I came across these videos:

Grief, it just makes me want to pack my bag and head out!!!

Photos of the weekend away at Button Quail Nature Reserve!

A picture’s worth a thousand words, so here are the pictures from our weekend away at Button Quail Nature Reserve; I’ll do a write up when I have a spare moment, busy tackling too many things at once to verbally capture the weekend, so watch this space please :)

More..

I’m going away this weekend!

The time has finally come for me to leave Cape Town for another weekend away (and here); This time it’s at a place called Button Quail, just over Sir Lowry’s Pass.

No electricity, no mobile reception, no Internet!

We’re be staying in a luxury tent whilst we’re there..

I can’t wait to just park off and enjoy some peace and quiet, I really hope their damn is stoked, I could really do with some good fishing too!

Introducing the 4×4 Solar Energy Camper Kit

This morning I woke up feeling awful, we’ve had a stomach bug pass through a group of us and it was my turn today. Never-the-less, I was fortunate enough to be over it by later this afternoon (thank heavens), and after forcing myself to hydrate and eat as much as I could, I was able to get back to some proposal writing and other work related items.

The peeps over at Wattronics wanted to share one of their latest devices with me and I felt I would share it with all of you. I’ve been trying to plan a weekend away for this coming weekend and the place that we’ve decided to go to doesn’t have electricity, but rather solar energy; Now, this is where the Wattronics 4×4 Camper Kit comes into play, I’m sure you’ll have figured it out after seeing the picture below:

The Wattronics Camper Kit

Let’s have a look at some of the features:

  • Easy to store, set up, use and carry
  • It comes with a 70W solar panel with leg tilts to handle various angles
  • Included in the kit is a 102 ah deep cycle battery
  • The box includes a 30 amp control circuit, in-let plugs, 2 cigar outputs, 2 Hella outputs, an on/off switch and indicators
  • A 20m connection cable is also included!
  • All of these items come with protective casings

We’re all on this mission to converse electricity, so allowing the sun to do your powering is a fantastic choice in my opinion – Gota love solar energy!

Another bonus is that unlike a big generator, the camper kit is going to be nice and quiet :)

If you’re interested in purchasing one of these, you can do it online on the Wattronics website.

Robot Fish being created by MIT students

On the heels of a scientific report last month saying 63 percent of world fish stocks require rebuilding, scientists at MIT have unveiled a new robot fish that’s cheap to make and ripe for mass production.

Actually, MIT engineers Kamal Youcef-Toumi and Pablo Valdivia Y Alvarado aren’t aiming to replenish fisheries. They want their robot swimmers to be used for underwater monitoring of pipelines, sunken ships, and pollution. Since the fish are less than a foot long, they can maneuver into spaces that are too tight for most underwater autonomous vehicles (UAVs).

Fly Fishing Basics : How to Tie a Fly to a Fly Fishing Line

As I’m new to fly fishing, I’ve spent some time doing some research as to how it all works. Last time I showed you a video on how to cast when fly fishing and this time let’s take a look at tying the fly to the line..

After my fishing trip to Rusty Gate, I can’t wait to get out there again and give all these new things a go!

Learn how to cast when fly fishing

Fly fishing is something I really want to get into. About 9 years ago, I was given a few lessons on how to cast, but it’s been too long for me to remember, so now I’m doing some research into all of it again.

Here are a couple video’s on how to cast..

Fishing Trip to Rusty Gate

On Friday, Fe, Dani, Morne and I set off for a fishing trip towards Greyton. Dani & Morne knew this little place in the valley, which was just perfect and we were super excited.

We arrived in good time and didn’t struggle too much with the roads – You can’t access this place unless you’re in a big 4×4 because there’s a really sharp incline and the roads and far too rocky and off-road for any normal car.

Due to the snow on the mountains, it was freezing when we arrived, so we quickly started the fire outside for food and a fire inside for warmth and we were quickly warmed up.

The weekend was totally awesome, after my two previous trips, this time the fishing was successful and I ended up catching 8 stunning Rainbow Trout :))

I shall not go on any more, but rather share the photographs..
