South Africa vs Great Britain men’s hockey this Saturday

The series of three test matches between the South African men’s hockey team and Great Britain comes to an end this Saturday, with the final match being played at Hartleyvale Stadium at 6pm. With the series tied at 1 – 1, it’s a fight for the series and bound to be a great game.

The first test match was won by the 12th-ranked South Africa after they beat Great Britain, ranked 4th in the world, 5 – 3 at Hartleyvale on Friday 3 February. It was thrilling, fast-paced game hugely enjoyed by the crowd of more than 3 000, and afterwards the South African team was mobbed by a large group of youngsters eager to get photos with and autographs from their heroes.

The second test was played in Stellenbosch last night in front of a 2 000-strong crowd. Though SA scored the first goal, Great Britain fought back to win the game 3 – 1. This means that Saturday’s game is the decider for the series. It would be great to see as many people come down to support the SA team as possible!

The SA team will also play Pinoke, the top Dutch hockey club from Amsterdam, on Thursday 9 February at 7pm and again on Sunday 12 February at 12pm, both games at Hartleyvale.

Tickets for the matches cost R30 for adults and R10 for children under 18. All proceeds go towards sending the SA team to an Olympic qualification tournament being held in Japan in April.

5 of the Best Super Bowl Adverts of 2012

Not too much to really say here, apart from that each year incredible adverts are released for the Super Bowl and this year is no different, take a look at these:

Powerade’s Twitter Football campaign

Look, it’s quite clear that social networking has a huge footprint in our world and that more and more brands are recognizing it as a brilliant way to engage, but not only that, to harvest data and provide information from it.

Powerade is a brand that recognized this, and during an important Latin American football competition (Copa America Argentina 2011), they formed a way to take tweets and showcase matches based on the harvested tweets.

This is quite awesome:

This is only the start, as Twitter becomes the second screen we watch whilst watching TV, more and more brands will innovate to provide applications that provide information.

Can’t wait!

Insane wakeskating!

Saw a friend of mine publish this video on Facebook and what a classic it is! I’ve skied before and even done a little wake boarding, but when I watch something like this I realize just how talented and mad some folks are.

This one’s worth a watch:

Boks beat Fiji comfortably

So I managed to get up this morning to watch the Boks play Fiji in the 2011 Rugby World Cup and I’m glad I did because it was a great game. The boks really did play well and it was awesome to see Burger back in action, I reckon he had a stellar game!

The final score was a lovely 49-3, the Boks showing why they’re world champions, I can’t wait to watch them play one of the better teams, if they keep this show up we’ll be in for a good match.

Well done gents!

Now it’s Australia vs Ireland, which is proving to be a really tight match, almost the end of the first half and the score’s tied at 6-6.

Torres signs for Chelsea, Liverpool confirm

One of the biggest topics over the past 24 hours has been whether Liverpool star, Fernando Torres would be moving to Chelsea after they offered him 50 million pounds!

torres-liverpool.jpg

Newspapers around the world speculated, the social sphere was a buzz, but nobody new the real answer, well, that was until now. It’s official, Torres will be moving to Chelsea and I’m incredibly bleak about it.

I’m not a huge football fan, but I follow from time to time and Torres was one of my favourite players, so I’m naturally a bit bleak about the move.

I must admit, it’ll be interesting to watch Liverpool come up against Chelsea in the not too distant future, although, seeing Torres in that awful blue jersey might make me puke.
