IKEA offers a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at great prices. The store is hugely popular overseas and this results in great social up-take when they launch social marketing campaigns.
IKEA have launched a new social experience and this time it’s through YouTube. They kicked off the campaign with the following video: Continue reading →
Remember George Hotz (Aka Geohot), yeh, the dude who hacked Sony’s Playstation 3! Well, finally Sony have taken the hint and are now trying to recruit a senior security analyst.
In other INTERESTING news, Facebook has actually hired George Hotz. Interestingly enough, this news was broken in the last 24 hours, yet Facebook state that George has been working for them since May already as a software engineer. So, it sounds like Facebook snapped him up immediately once Sony settled with him.
Remember this:
As I love the hacking scene, I have to say, kudo’s to George, although what he did was wrong (arguable), he ended up working at an amazing place (his words), and you can’t help but think, “If you can’t beat them, offer then a job!” That was said by Dylan Raynes and it’s so darn true.
I wonder what next, Google to hire Lulzsec members? ;)
Earlier today, Google started talking a lot more about it’s new social product, Google+ Many places have reported Google+ to be a Facebook competitor in that it allows you to connect with other people and share areas of your life with them. Google has highlighted five main features which they are marketing.
Here are the five features:
Circles: Circles is like friends lists on Facebook. You create circles of friends, grouping people together around certain requirements. You could create a circle for colleagues, for example. The best part is the drop and drag interface for setting up the circles, this will be hugely handy compared to Facebook’s way of setting up lists in my opinion.
Hangouts: The idea here is the ability to let your friends know that you’re online, so they can drop by and hangout with you in the sense of chatting and interacting.
Sparks: Let Google+ know what your interests are and it will gather interesting news, photographs and all sorts that have to do with your interests and deliver them to you, sort of like a topical RSS feed I guess. You can naturally share sparks with circles of friends.
Instant Upload: Quickly and easily upload your videos and photographs to share with your friends
Huddle: Huddle is a group messaging system, which allows you to talk to your circles of friends and the best part is that you can do it via your mobile phone whilst you’re on the go!

I’ve dug out all the videos I could find for you to bring you right up to speed:
Sheesh, talk about the big getting bigger! Google’s reach a billion users, Microsoft is around 900 million, Facebook around 700 million and Yahoo are just below 700 million. Can you imagine having a billion people using your services? Incredible. In 2005, Google had just less than 500 million and Microsoft were ahead of the pack.
With services like Twitter and FourSquare growing at unbelievable rates, it will be interesting to see if they catch up with these giants in the next few years. I mean, FourSquare reached 10 million members in the space of just 2 years!
If you had to put your money on one of these websites, which one would it be? Is Facebook the obvious choice? Perhaps it is..
One of Apple’s new movements in technology is the iCloud, a way to listen to your music where ever you are. For those of you who don’t know what Cloud technology is, it refers to being able to access your information from anywhere provided you have an Internet connection. So, this is exactly what Apple are going after, but in the music industry.
Google announced today that they had rolled out the Google +1 button to the entire Internet and anyone can get codes for their website. The process of getting the source code is incredibly simple, all you need to do is click here, customize your button and copy/paste the code onto your website. You’ll be presented with a button generator like this:
This is quite an exciting release from Google as Google has been working incredibly hard on their social search and I’m pretty sure getting your articles +1′d will result in better rankings, but don’t quote me on that ;)
Some news from Google today involves a new feature they’ve introduced to their Image Search. At the moment, an image search matches images to search terms in a specific way, whereas with subject sorting, Google’s able to give us more relevant results. This is best displayed in a video, so if you’re interested, take a watch:
One thing I really enjoy seeing online is giants trying to buy giants. We’ve watched the search engines try to buy each other, we’ve watched Twitter appear in various buyout situations and now we’re going to watch Facebook try to buy Skype, apparently.
Sources say that Facebook is looking at offering Skype in the region of $3 billion and $4 billion. Even that’s a chunk of change for Facebook’s CEO Mr Zuckerberg! I wouldn’t mind having a few billion to throw around, who wouldn’t?
Three months ago, Skype launched a new version with a huge focus on Facebook. In fact, they created an entire Facebook tab so that you could view your friends posts, see where your friends were checking in and even call them directly. It’s no surprise that Facebook and Skype might be chatting!
I guess I could sit here for hours discussing why I think Facebook would want to go this route, there are so many reasons. If you want to discuss, leave a comment below. What will be interesting though, is whether any of the other giants start to get involved!
Interested in recording 360 degree video’s with your iPhone 4? Well, the good news is that GoPano Micro has been created for this very purpose. Sure, it’s not as simple as just getting an application, but if you’re serious, then this is worth the investment.
Here’s a quick video:
This is a kick starter project, so if you’re interested in assisting with the funding and being known as one of the backers, then head on over here and make a payment.
The project required $20,000 and has already raised $80,911 – it’s clearly a hot favorite!
