IS THERE AN APP FOR THAT?

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 18th October 2017 by
I'm sure you've all heard someone say, "is there an app for that?". It's becoming a very common phrase in this day and age, sometimes it gets you an answer, sometimes it doesn't but what most people miss to see is that it also offers inspiration. Imagine you hard several people all asking for an app that does something, heck, imagine you saw 100 people asking for the same app. Wouldn't that inspire you to want to investigate how to create that app? Okay, so I'm preaching to my fellow entrepreneur's mostly here. I'm the type of person who sees demand as an opportunity and when it came to the concept of, "is there an app for that?" it got me thinking. What if I could keep track of each time someone asked, "is there an app for that?". Imagine I could compile a long list of app possibiliti...

MOBILE CUSTOMERS ARE DIFFERENT FROM...

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 16th October 2017 by
I was approached by PayU to write an article that looked at how mobile customers should be treated differently from desktop customers. My agency does a lot of digital marketing for many companies around the globe, so it's very easy for me to say that we know just how quickly mobile is growing. To give you an idea, we have access to 100+ Google Analytics accounts, which allow us to see website visitors. Through this we can quickly segment mobile versus desktop users over the space of several years. One of the websites we manage received a few hundred thousand visitors a month. The breakdown shows that 60% of the visitors are on mobile devices compared to a couple of years ago where only 35% of the visitors were on mobile. That is unbelievable growth and if that doesn't convince you th...

SEO KEYWORD TOPIC DISCOVERY [LIVE...

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 1st September 2017 by
I read countless articles on keyword/topic identification and research, and we receive countless questions at iMod Digital and iMod Education about the topic. Unfortunately, as much as I wish there was one set way of doing this, there simply isn't. Keyword identification and research is something that has to be done from multiple angles as you grow your website - the more you explore, the more opportunities you will come across. However, there are places to start and today I'm going to take you through a process or two that I use as a starting point. It's a logical approach that I feel isn't too complex so please follow along. I ...

USING EFFICIENCY TO LOOK AFTER OUR WORLD

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 5th December 2016 by
We live in a world where efficiency is becoming more and more important, not only from a time-saving and optimisation point of view but more importantly from a resources perspective to protect our world. Everyone in South Africa should be aware of the water restrictions currently in effect and everyone has experienced load-shedding. The supply of water and electricity is under pressure and it's time for citizens to stand up and take action. This isn't a matter of just knowing about it, hearing it on the radio or watching it on television, but actually understanding that we face a serious resource crisis. We need to look after our world for future generations. ...

I REACHED OUT AND IT WAS WORTH IT!

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 1st July 2016 by
I'm a strong believer in reflecting on experiences, looking for problems and then correcting them. I believe that this is how we become better people, run better businesses and in general this is how we grow. So I've written blog posts on things I did when I started my business and then 5 years later I wrote about things I'd learnt. Both of these blog posts focus mostly on the positive and perhaps there's room for a post about things I did incorrectly and have thus reflected on, but that's a story for another day. Today I want to jot down something on a recent experience, it...

BUSINESS BOOKS YOU’LL READ MORE...

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 12th June 2016 by
I don't read a lot of books, it's just never been something I could get into. Perhaps it's my levels of patience or perhaps it's because I simply just read too much online. I'm a huge fan of reading long articles online though, really well written business, marketing or financial ones, but I know that it will only take me a day to get through them. With that being said, I admire people who read books and whilst I flick around the internet I'm forever coming across people recommending books and I just wish I could commit myself to reading them. ...

LESSONS 5 YEARS INTO RUNNING A BUSINESS

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 9th June 2016 by
Back in 2013 I wrote a blog post entitled, "5 Things I Wouldn't Change When Starting a Business" which was very well received - thank you. Following this, several people have asked me to write a part two and now that a few years have passed I feel that I've gained some valuable experience that will allow me to add some substance to this part two post. #1 In &...

ONE WEEK UNTIL ECOMMERCE AFRICA CONFEX...

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 11th February 2016 by
I think there's no question that the growth of eCommerce in South Africa is growing at an incredible rate. Not only are there eCommerce websites appearing constantly, there is international interest and eCommerce company's are already being bought but key international brands. Throw mCommerce into the equation and we have an industry that is starting to boom. That's very much focusing on the supply side, but with South Africans starting to shop online more than ever, we have a great equilibrium where supply and demand are sitting snuggly together. Heck, I did absolutely all my Christmas shopping without having to leave my desk and having told people about this I know that I wasn't the only one. eCommerce is hot, no need to question that. Personally, I've found that there's a great de...

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 3rd November 2015 by
I’m taking part in a campaign called the Pathfinders Challenge by Standard Bank. For this campaign I’ve been asked to blog about my experiences as an entrepreneur, what it’s been like to start a business and any advice I have to share with all of you. Before I do that, let me take a moment to tell you about this competition though because it’s a good one! The Pathfinders Challenge is a website that allows people to submit innovative ideas that will benefit the customer of the future. By “customer”, I’m referring to people who belong to a bank or financial service and the concept resolves around people offering up ideas on...

ALERT ALFRED: BETA TESTERS REQUIRED

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 6th September 2015 by
We've recently launched a new online tool at iMod Digital called Alert Alfred. The premise is really simple, you add your websites to Alert Alfred and if you website ever goes offline you receive an email notification so that you can address the problem. On top of that, when it's back up you'll receive another notification telling you as such. It's just a handy tool, which is free, that keeps you posted because when your website goes offline it's like closing your shop doors. ...
