Marketing & Business
piece written on the 6th September 2015 by
We've recently launched a new online tool at iMod Digital called Alert Alfred. The premise is really simple, you add your websites to Alert Alfred and if you website ever goes offline you receive an email notification so that you can address the problem. On top of that, when it's back up you'll receive another notification telling you as such. It's just a handy tool, which is free, that keeps you posted because when your website goes offline it's like closing your shop doors. ...

I’M HIRING!

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 9th July 2015 by
It has come to that point again where I need to try and seek out a truly talented digital marketer who has a very keen interest in search engine optimisation. Someone who can be given a task and is able to run with it, return when it is complete and not be afraid to ask team members for assistance. Someone who understands search engine optimisation without having to turn to Google for answers and someone who wants to avoid corporate cock shafting and prefers to work in a small and dynamic team of driven individuals. This is a full time position in Cape Town. ...

GOOGLE’S MOBILE ALGORITHM: WHAT...

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 1st April 2015 by
By now most people who run a website or are involved in digital marketing in any capacity would have read about Google's plans to launch an algorithm update towards the 21st of April this year. There have been a huge number of articles with different opinions about us, but at the end of the day there are also some facts and I want to try and demystify this somewhat. Last month, on the 26th of February, Google made an official announcement. In this announcement they stated that the change will affect mobile searches in all languages and across all countries. They went on to state that it will have a significant impact on search results as we know them. The important thing to note here is that Google have specifically said "mobile searches...

MONITORING UPTIME WITH UPTIME ROBOT

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 8th March 2015 by
When it comes to being responsible for a lot of websites, one of the most important things is ensuring that you're made quickly aware when a website goes offline. This may be so you can turn off an AdWords campaign, to avoid de-indexing matters or to just make sure that your website is online and ready for customers. At iMod Digital we make use of a really great free monitoring application called Uptime Robot. The premise is really straight forward: you enter in the website's address and Uptime Robot alerts you when a website goes down (and then alerts you when it comes up again). The website checks your site/s every 5 minutes so you can get notified really quickly. There is a...

CLOSE MORE BUSINESS DEALS [STUDY]

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 13th February 2015 by
I love business, I love meeting new people and I love sharing what my team and I do with people. What I love even more than all of that is closing deals. People are so quick to assume that closing a deal is all about money, and sure it's business, but I find the excitement in knowing that someone has decided to trust me. Almost nobody just buys something, people in general don't like spending money and people in general are not quick to trust, so to get over those hurdles is an incredibly satisfying feeling. For over a decade I've been in and out of pitch meetings and in this time I've learnt a huge amount. From the clothing you wear to the way to make eye contact to the way you sit to what you have to offer a...

7 SEO AND MARKETING PODCASTS

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 30th November 2014 by
Not everyone is cut out for videos nor is everyone interested in watching videos, there's a very good place in the market for podcasts. I'm a bit of a podcast fan, I enjoy subscribing, putting my headphones in and being educated. For years I've listened to podcasts and I cannot explain just how much I've learnt. Just the other evening someone was asking me about SEO podcasts and I explained that there were some, but that I felt it would be better to rather talk about some podcasts that cover SEO as well as different for...

IS YOUR WEBSITE POSITIONED FOR SEARCH?

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 24th November 2014 by
Almost on a daily basis I'll engage with someone who wants assistance with their website and most of the time it's about getting more visitors to their site from Google. I normally start telling them about search engine optimisation and they interupt and tell me they've Googled SEO and know it's about title tags, meta descriptions and a few other things. The problem here is that when you Google about SEO you're reading articles better positioned at people who already understand SEO and not someone who isn't familiar at all and so these people have been misguided right off the bat. What happens? They end up following a guide, doing a few things and possibly even see some results, but they don't end up seeing the full potential. In fact, most of the time people get caught up and if anything ...

SUCCESS THROUGH SOLVING A PROBLEM

Marketing & Business, Technology
piece written on the 23rd November 2014 by
They say that one of the best ways to launch a company is through solving a problem and if you think about it, that's fairly logical. However, coming up with a problem to solve is difficult, one must be very perceptive and present in life, always taking note of things - I often say that keeping a notebook or application handy is a good way of doing this. Or, to find the headspace to step back from life and assess which areas cause the most hassle/trouble. Brooke Martin, a 14 year old girl came up with an incredib...

MY 2 USEFUL IFTTT RECIPES

Marketing & Business, Technology
piece written on the 21st November 2014 by
IFTTT is one of the most useful applications on the Internet. It's one of those out-the-box applications that is powerful, but with your own intelligence you can make it even more powerful and the options are endless. IFTTT stands for If This Then That and that's exactly what it is. You create what is known as a recipe for example: IF i write a blog post THEN send out a tweet about it. Or, if I post a link on Facebook then automatically tweet it as well. IFTTT allows for excellent automation and efficiency - things that I, as a digital marketer, look for to optimise my processes online. ...

MOBILE-FRIENDLY SITES GET SEO RANKING...

Marketing & Business
piece written on the 19th November 2014 by
Yesterday Google announced a very interesting change to their search results for people who are searching on mobile devices. As we all know, mobile traffic is increasing at an incredible rate and I don't foresee this slowing down any time soon. Because of this Google needs to change and adapt to ensure that their business model is kept in tact - to present users with the best possible websites based on their search query. It isn't fresh news that Google is concerned about mobile, but this was compounded yesterday when they announced that mobile-friendly websites would get preference in the search results with the inclusion of "Mobile-Friendly" being added to the search result sites provided they are mobile friendly. I took my phone, launched Google and search for "hotel new york" and as...
