Brilliant BMW MPowered Advert

These days I use PVR, almost all the time, so I don’t see many adverts and the main reason is because most adverts are absolutely stupid. Let’s face it, when last did you see an advert that was really good on television? I hear nothing.

But, every now and then a fantastic advert is launched, perhaps it’s an advert by Samsung, perhaps it’s one by Peugot, or perhaps it’s one by BMW..

What makes us follow big brands?

People follow brands, it’s just part of life and anyone who says they don’t, probably just hasn’t realized it. From the clothes we wear to the food we eat to the inspiration we seek, big brands so very often set the standards and we’re inclined to try and follow – it’s human nature.

So, the interesting question is, what makes us want to follow these big brands? Marketers will have analysed this on many occasions and I’ve come across an excellent infographic from GetSatisfaction, which gives us some great insight.

How much are big brands spending on online advertising?

We do love a good infographic here at iMod don’t we? Well, this one I think is good because everyone knows that online advertising has grown in leaps and bounds, but sometimes it’s hard to know just how much some of the brands are actually spending, and I think this might shock you a bit.

Does your company spend a lot of money on online advertising? If so, why not share with us how you go about deciding what to spend and what return on investment you’re getting? You don’t have to be specific obviously :)

Samsung Galaxy S2 advert

By now you all know I’m a sucker for dancing, whether it’s me on the dance floor doing some salsa or spending hours in front of the TV watching So You Think You Can Dance, I’ll no doubt be smiling.

Anyway, Samsung has launched a new advert for their Galaxy S2 and it’s absolutely brilliant. I don’t want to explain what it’s about, it’s only 1 minute and 47 seconds long and it’s most definitely worth the watch.

5 Awesome & Inspiring Facebook Pages

I’ve spent a good amount of time reading up on Facebook Pages the last few weeks and I’ve come across some that I think are really great. Each of them has a reason for being great, but I’m not going to spoil it for you, so instead I’ll give you a quick look at each one and then you can decide if you want to explore further.

These 5 Facebook Pages are unrelated and there’s no common trend between them, expect for the fact that I think they’re highly effective and I think you’ll see why I think so.

Social timing – part 1 [infographic]

Earlier today I blogged about When To Tweet?, which is a web application which connects to your Twitter account and looks at when your followers are most active, so that you have an idea when it’s best to send out a tweet if you’re looking for people to see it or interact with you. Really useful if you’re a marketer.

Twitter’s not the only place with has a science around timing, in fact, all social networks are like this and it’s nothing new to anything we know about, just think about shops, they operate from 8-5 because that’s when most people are going to visit them, the same applies to social networks and the understanding behind timing. You’ve heard it before, “timing is everything”.

Today we’re looking at part 1 of a series called, “The Science of Social Timing” and it’s for us to learn from, so enjoy:

When should you tweet?

People use Twitter for all sorts of reasons, to find new business, to make friend, to chat to friends, to find out news, to ask questions and as a marketing tool. There’s no best reason in my opinion, it’s up to you how you use it.

I use Twitter for all sorts of reasons, but because I run iMod and because I enjoy driving traffic to this blog, I use it to do just that, drive traffic. Now, there are so many things to take into account when driving traffic with Twitter, such as not continually spamming your followers, but of all things, one of the most important things for me is that of knowing when to tweet.

Have you figured out when your followers are most active? Imagine sending your tweets out at a time when nobody is watching? Pointless. But how to do you know people are watching? To good news is that it is possible and “When to tweet?” makes it possible with their simple website.

When to tweet?” allows you to enter in your Twitter name and it returns a chart telling you when your followers are most active. I must just point out though, using the website free only analyses your first 500 followers, but for $20, you can use the website to its full potential.

The service does not ask you to authenticate, which is a nice change, I’m tired of the Twitter apps that ask you to authenticate and then access your information to send a marketing spumy tweet out.

Instant Twitter Follow on your Website

Facebook created the LIKE button for your website, possibly the easiest way to get more fans. Twitter’s keeping up with the pace and has introduced their version of this, the FOLLOW button. Much like the LIKE button, the FOLLOW button allows you to “follow” an account with the click of a mouse.

I was wondering when Twitter would create such a button, it certainly has taken longer than I thought, but it’s here now, so no point in complaining. Grabbing a follow button for your website is really simple, you’ll be presented with a button generator like the one below:

The Twitter Follow Button is a fantastic way to increase your followers and if you do run a website, this is certainly something you should be adding to your site. If you’re curious as to what the button’s going to look like, here’s a screenie from IMDB, where you can see:

Facebook is hugely attractive to small businesses

This is a fantastic video that looks at small businesses embracing Facebook as a marketing tool. It’s all about the LIKE on this one, and it’s worth having a listen to the video, the answers come directly from Facebook staff, so it’s first hand information. The video touches on why the LIKE is so important, which so many people don’t quite understand just how powerful it is. It has been said that more people are searching inside Facebook than Google, so that’s one reason to consider taking Facebook seriously, but on the flip side, I’ve been in a few conversations recently where people say outright that they think Facebook is too micky mouse to really look for products or services they might need, and therefore they aren’t interested in having a presence on Facebook. It’s a highly debatable topic, one which really does require discussion more so than my opinion, so if you’re interested in chatting about this, leave a comment please and I’ll jump in right away.

Anyway, here’s the video, take a watch:
