Hurt Locker movie review

If there’s one movie atm that a lot of people have been going on about, it’s Hurt Locker.

I’ve watched the movie and it’s a cracker, I know that IMDB gave it a score of 8/10, which is darn high for IMDB, but I noticed that a lot of the reviewers weren’t that impressed and I can’t understand why.

The movie is gripping, perhaps some parts aren’t completely realistic, but all in all it’ll keep you engaged and in suspense. I found the cast incredibly good; I always find Jeremy Renner as a good watch, he’s friendly when he needs to be and can be a bad ass when he has to. I also enjoy Anthony Mackie as an actor, so for me it was a great mix.

I’d recommend the movie and that means a lot because I normally find 1 good movie in every 100!

The Blind Side – Movie Review

This week’s movie review is based on the story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized youth who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with help of a caring woman and her family. The cast consists of Sandra Bullock (awesome), Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron, amongst others.

IMDB says:

“Nice to see Sandra Bullock come back after the cinematic travesty, called All About Steve(2009). This was a well made film, perfectly filmed, and great performances by everybody.

Leigh Ann Tuohy(Sandra Bullock), seems to have the life most women would envy, a wonderful supporting husband(Tim Mcgraw), and two great kids(Lily Collins and Jae Head). But one day while driving home, she sees, a larger then life teenager which everybody calls Big Mike(Quinton Aaron), when she tries to talk to him, he comes across as a little withdrawn, and is nearly homeless, she decides to take him in, with her supporting family behind her. Leigh finds out his name is Michael Oher, and tries to dig up things about his past, in hopes of helping him, but the question is will she?

I really liked this film, it manages to balance humor and drama perfectly. Sandra Bullock gave quite a strong performance, so Quinton Aaron, Lyn Collin, but Jae Head is quite the scene stealer. It also has a good football scene as well. And Kathy Bates is good in her supporting role also. I say see The Blind Side.”

Looks like a good movie doesn’t it?

The Twilight Saga – Eclipse [Official 2010]

In The Twilight Sage: Eclipse, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between Edward and Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Opens on June 30, 2010.

I’m looking forward to this, the first one was incredible, but I was really let down by the second one, so I’m really hoping that the third one goes over and beyond even the first one!

Everybody’s Fine – Movie Review

This week’s movie review is Everybody’s Fine, starring Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale – what a cast!

It would seem that this movie is targeted more for the older crowd, and wouldn’t be suggested for anyone under the age of 24. Everybody’s Fine is a beautiful, heart-felt and sometimes painful story of a father recognising and coming to grips with the reality of his parenting and lack of control of his children’s lives.

If you’re a parent, you’ll be able to relate to all sorts of aspects that this movie brings, but be ready for a slight emotional rollercoaster ride ;)

Alice in Wonderland 2010

This week’s movie review is all about Alice in Wonderland. I remember watching this years and years ago when I was a little kid and then I remember talking about just how trippy it was with some friends during my late teens. All-in-all it’s a movie that’s had huge success over the years and this new one is bound to capture everyones attention, again. Oh, and it’s Tim Burton, what more could you ask for?

I don’t want to go into too much detail (the trailer gives you enough information), but a basic outline is as follows: 19-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen’s reign of terror.

What do you think? Going to be good?

Keen on watching something else that’s new? Take a look:

Book Of Eli – Movie Review

This week’s movie review is about Book of Eli – A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.

It’s an intriguing tale about a man in post-apocalyptic America walking west to deliver an initially unnamed book. The fact that he’s been doing so under the most bleak of circumstances for 30 years is a testament to his strong faith and determination to complete the task. The movie has a good amount of action…Eli can handle himself and takes down any of the deranged lunatics who try to get in his way in crowd pleasing fashion. The core of the movie occurs when he stops at a small town ruled by Gary Oldman’s evil character and his merciless motorcycle riding thugs. The ensuing confrontation is yet another test of Eli’s faith.

The movie contains a surprise ending that will make you say, “WTF”??? and is absolutely impossible, but makes you think back over the entire film and want to watch it again. Denzel Washington, as Eli, is outstanding and he exhibits the amazing charisma he brings to all of his roles. The movie is well cast, and it was great seeing the fine Jennifer Beals (“Flashdance”) on the big screen again. The Hughes Brothers are excellent directors, and I love the diversity of their body of work, from “Menace to Society” to “From Hell”. ~ imdb

Crazy Heart – Movie Review

This weeks movie review is Crazy Heart..

Jeff Bridges’ incredible performance is not the only aspect of this movie that deserves praise. Bridges—who will most likely win an Oscar for his performance (sorry, Colin Firth, it was just your bad luck to deliver your best performance in the same year)—inhabits the character of Bad Blake so thoroughly and convincingly that you forget you’re watching Jeff Bridges; he truly gives life to this alcoholic but talented country singer who is searching for some joy and redemption at the end of his career.

crazy-hearts

Maggie Gyllenhaal is wonderful in a supporting role as Blake’s girlfriend, and Colin Farrell is a genuine surprise as Blake’s protégé, Tommy Sweet. (By the way, who the heck knew that Farrell—and Bridges, for that matter—could sing so well?) Bonus: the soundtrack is awesome. Interesting cinema synergy—Robert Duvall (still a working actor at the age of 79), who produced this film and has a small supporting role, won a Best Actor Oscar in 1984 for playing a character similar to Bad Blake in “Tender Mercies.”

Starring: Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Directed by: Scott Cooper
Genre: Drama
Running time: 112 min

Bright Star – Movie Review

Starting something new here on iMod, Movie Reviews. Once a week, in collabaration with Zoopy, I will be publishing a movie review; There’s nothing better than kicking off the shoes, lounging back and enjoying a good movie is there? The only problem comes in when you have the time, but you don’t know what to watch, so hopefully this will help.

Enjoy..

Set in the 1800′s, an undercover love affairs begins between a young poet and the out-spoken girl next door. The story starts out as if the relationship could never work – The young girl was not impressed by the lads poetry, but the lad found the girl amazing – Until she finds out that he is looking after his seriously ill younger brother.

Her interest in helping him with his brother leads to her learning poetry, which turns into an passionate relationship.

I’m going to leave it at that as I worry that I’ve already give too much away, but let’s see how this first attempt goes and we can take it from there :)
