N97 text messages unknown sender

Nokia South Africa recently sent me an N97 for doing some social media marketing for them and I’ve been playing around with the device and noticed a flaw.

I imported all my numbers from my sim card onto the phone, but whenever someone sent me a text message or called me, their name was not showing up – as you can imagine, this is incredibly frustrating. I performed a firmware upgrade and everything, but no luck.

The Solution: Make sure that you don’t have duplicate contacts across your phone and sim card. If a person is on your phone memory and sim card memory, then it won’t show the persons name.

What I did was go to ‘contacts’, ‘settings’, ‘contacts to display’. I chose to only display the contacts on the phone (I had them all on my sim card as well). I then marked them all and deleted them. After this, I changed it back to show contacts on sim – this removed all the duplicates and the names are now showing :)

Bit annoying, but alas, these things happen!

Fishing Trip to Rusty Gate

On Friday, Fe, Dani, Morne and I set off for a fishing trip towards Greyton. Dani & Morne knew this little place in the valley, which was just perfect and we were super excited.

We arrived in good time and didn’t struggle too much with the roads – You can’t access this place unless you’re in a big 4×4 because there’s a really sharp incline and the roads and far too rocky and off-road for any normal car.

Due to the snow on the mountains, it was freezing when we arrived, so we quickly started the fire outside for food and a fire inside for warmth and we were quickly warmed up.

The weekend was totally awesome, after my two previous trips, this time the fishing was successful and I ended up catching 8 stunning Rainbow Trout :))

I shall not go on any more, but rather share the photographs..

Plan for the future or live in the now?

Last night after salsa class, a few of us got engaged in a really interesting conversation, which extended from religion to politics to philosophy and so forth – it was incredibly interesting and one topic, which stuck with me was that of living in the now.

Once upon a time I read a book called The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, which was a book aimed at teaching and showing the reader how to live life looking at things in the present, rather than always comparing the present to the past in order to foresee the future. I found the book fascinating and ever since I have always wondered to myself what the best way to handle life is, in terms of living in the now.

I’m the sort of person who’s extremely calculated, I like to know what’s happening tomorrow before today is over, or what’s happening in a couple years before this year is over. Now, I am obviously talking about things relative to my life, such an example which comes to mind is that of buying property – I have spent hours and hours defining a plan as to how I will be able to afford property in the next couple years.

Back to the conversation last night – We were trying to decide whether it made more sense to reap the benefits of being young and having money to spend or whether we should be saving as much as possible. When you’re 30 and you can drive around in a ambo, it’s awesome, but when you’re 60 and driving around in a ambo, it’s a little sad – Naturally that’s my opinion, but I’m sure you get it. I find myself, and friends/family, saving money continually and always worrying about something in the future, this something being undefined and unknown – which makes me wonder, what’s the point? I do believe that creating a foundation and security blanket for the future is important, but perhaps we’re all spending too much time worry about that, when in fact we should be embracing life and everything it has to offer, now. Doesn’t that more sense than limiting ourselves when we’re young, healthy and capable of doing amazing things?

Naturally our conversation went on quite a bit more than just this and tapped on topics such as, will the world actually be around in, say, 30 years? That said, imagine limiting yourself so much now for no reason at all?

What do you think? Should we live in the now, embrace life, spend money and have fun, or should we carefully calculate our, possible, futures?

Taking some time out

A few days ago I talked about my weekend away in Talbach and how wonderful it was to leave technology alone for a while.

The more and more I talk to people, the more I hear about the requirement for holidays, massages, TLC and other stress relieving things. Most of the people I talk to are between the ages of 25 and 32, work in the technology industry and work more hours than they probably should. They’re all successful for their ages.

The reason I bring this up is because I feel that a great deal of us are working incredibly hard, the information overload is quite incredible and managing it all takes years of experience. Without finding a good balance between work, life, love, pleasure and so forth can land you in a tricky spot. Ask yourself this question – When last did you go for a massage or a weekend away, or even a walk on the beach? If you haven’t done either, then it’s probably a good time to book a massage or take a long walk :)

I want to hear from all of you though – When last did you do something really relaxing and what was it?

Weather to the weekend

As much as I love the rain, I feel that there has been enough now and it’s time for us to experience a little sun for a few days. That said, it would appear that that’s exactly what is going to happen.

Looking at the weather for the next couple of days shows us that the weekend might grace us with some sun!

weather

I’m heading away to Greyton this weekend with Fe, Dani and Morni for a weekend of, hopefully, lots of fishing. This time around, I have to catch something, otherwise I’m going to be really bleak!

ASOS now delivers to South Africa

If there’s one online shop I’ve followed for longer than any other, it’s ASOS – I receive all their newsletters and follow them on Twitter.

In the past, I emailed ASOS asking about delivery to South Africa, to which I got some really funny responses about South Africa being dangerous and having wildlife as well as a lack of technology – This turned into one of the funniest email threads I ever had but resulted in a “no” to my question.

Just the other day, ASOS announced that they would now be delivering to South Africa and I’m totally thrilled!

I look forward to burning the credit card a little ;)

My weekend away

Last week I mentioned that I was heading out of Cape Town for the weekend and boy oh boy was it worth it!

Fe and I set off late Friday afternoon and arrived there after some serious fighting with rain and below average directions. Upon arriving, we were greeted with a sm:)e and pointed in the direction of our cottage. It was tricky to admire the setting due to the rain and dark, but we could tell that it was going to be an awesome weekend. Priority one was to get a fire going, which I did and the little stone cottage warmed up quickly. Lots of red wine and some great dinner went down well and set us up for a comfortable first night.

I woke up to bacon and eggs in bed on Saturday morning, this was followed with a small walk and then some fishing – The dam had unfortunately not been stoked in quite some time and there were no bass, so I didn’t manage to catch anything – Next time I’ll be more prepared. After fishing, I made a fire and we braaied some wors and chops and then just enjoyed the peace and quiet.

We also took a trip into Talbach and visited a small art gallery and craft store, they had some beautiful art, but nothing which would suite my flat unfortunately. Talbach is quite a beautiful town, I’ll definitely go back there again to explore.

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend, I can’t wait to head out again.

If you’re interested in staying at Welbedacht, please make sure you visit their website here. I would definitely recommend it!

Heading out of Cape Town for the weekend

So tomorrow, Fe and I will be heading out of Cape Town for a couple days to a relaxing and remote location in Tulbagh called Welbedacht.

welbedacht

Here’s a quick write up:

Just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town, Welbedacht Nature Reserve offers a stunning retreat in the country. Amply equipped, self catering cottages tucked away in between the Reserve and orchards, offer complete privacy and a tranquil environment. Spectacular views of the Tulbagh Valley and the surrounding mountains combine with the cries of the fish eagles and the
sounds of nature.

Private plunge pools and braai areas, open fireplaces for winter nights, and large verandas for relaxing on all cottages combine to make this a special and memorable escape.

Sounds utterly delightful if you ask me, I’m tired of these fancy and trendy locations, bring on the rural living!

fishing

I can’t wait to do some fishing!

I watched Twilight

What an insanely awesome movie! Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s actoring was to die for, I’m lost for words. Honestly, I was expecting far more action and the fact that it was horribly romantic, just made it my perfect cuppa ;)

I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

twilight6

I know all the ladies go wild about Robert, but gents, WOW, Kristen’s eyes and facial mannerisms are too incredible to put into words, I found myself feeling slightly lost ;)

Chilling out for a little

So I decided that I was too lazy to cook myself bacon and eggs, so I’m sitting downstairs at the coffee shop, writing up with post, waiting for bacon and eggs, and listening to some Cafe del Mar – I must admit, having a Lenovo S10 netbook is incredibly useful.

This afternoon I’m heading through to The Waterfront to buy some items for tonight’s Moulin Rouge salsa party – it’s going to be a fun one, there’s no doubt about that. Not exactly sure what I’m going to wear, but I really didn’t feel like going all out and renting something, so it’ll be minimalist, but hopefully good enough.

What does everyone have planned for the weekend?

I found two useful links btw:

1. 5 ways to turn your blog comments into discussions
2. 20 open source PHP CMS’s

Right, breakfast has arrived, I best be off :)
