Teach parents technology

In every family there’s always one person who people turn to for tech support, is that person you? I do play such a role, although there are a few of us in the family who are quite up to speed, but I can relate. This is a situation that people at Google have been thinking about and they’ve found a great solution.

Google set forth to create a website that would help kids teach their parents basically tech stuff. The project was born and launched as TeachParentsTech.org. Here’s a video to bring you up to speed:

The premise behind TeachParentsTech.org is that it’s geared up for kids to send their mom and dad basic tech videos, or perhaps send a video to a friend or neighbour, the whole idea is about educating others about technology in a simple way and Google’s on top of it.

Great idea don’t you think?

So, how’s the weather, hey?

If you don’t live in Cape Town, Joburg, Durban or one of the towns on the evening news’ weather map, it can be quite frustrating to figure out what weather to expect in your area. This is especially annoying if you live in a fairly sizable town which is not covered by our local weather websites. Or if it is, you often have to pay to find out what the weather in your area’s going to be!

Enter today’s “Everyday Awesomeness”: yr.no! Yr.no is a Norwegian website which has weather forecasts for 7 million locations around the world. It shows you detailed forecasts (morning, afternoon and evening) for today and the next two days after that. Alongside the forecasts is a map which shows the movement of cloud cover, change of temperature, wind direction, and precipitation.

I found my town and a few very unexpected ones, much to my delight. I almost found Pofadder (it has Pofadder Farm in another province) but it even has places like the Koue Bokkeveld. The forecasts seem pretty accurate too.

Give yr.no a spin and let us know what you think-does it have the town you were looking for?
