First day at The Forge brings my passion back!

Today was my first day at The Forge where I would be working in my new office. I was up bright and early (don’t laugh) and arrived at work early (no jokes).

The Forge team has gone to great trouble to welcome me and allow me to fit in comfortably. My desk has been kitted out big time, with everything needed to run my own little business unit from my own landline to all the stationary I need and even a bunch of awesome gadgets! To be honest, I’ve never felt so welcome in my life. Ok, to be fair, I’ve been warmly welcomed at other companies as well, but right now this feels like it tops the charts :)

Oh, and I got some business cards, so I’ll hopefully be able to give you all one when I bump into you!

I’m not going to go into huge detail as to what I did today as I see myself doing quite a bit of blogging as my journey goes onwards, but let’s just say that I feel that I fit right in and even introduced some new technologies, educated people on Search Engine Optimization and found the craziest CMS I’ve ever seen.

The journey has begun and I’m feeling very optimistic. Big up to team Forge for a great first day!

My new office!

I’m not going to go into huge detail, rather head here to take a proper read of how the offices came together..

I’ve worked in a number of offices in my life, and a piece of advice I always say, is that an office needs plants – they create a calm feeling and have a number of benefits – So, I’m completely thrilled to see this! Nothing like a jazzed up office!

I start my new job on Monday and am looking very forward to it!

The NEW web adventures of Christopher Mills

It’s with great pride and pleasure that I can announce that I will be working at The Forge Web Creations from the beginning of November.

Since I left my previous job, my eyes opened to what is available and what is possible in this fantastic industry, us geeks, all exist. I think I’ve met more inspirational people in the last month than I have throughout my entire life and it’s an incredible feeling. I’d like to thank everyone who approached me and offered me a position – I am looking for happiness and somewhere where I can open my creative mind and furthermore, be listened to when I do.

I met Sue, from The Forge, a couple months ago at the WordCampSA before-party at Asoka, and I immediately liked her, at this point I had no intention of working for anyone else and if anything, I was going to start my own media agency. After a lot of research, business plan drafting, meeting financial advisors and the likes, I decided that it was not in my best interest to do so for a number of reasons. At this point, I had left my job as Founder & Operations Manager at FormFunction and was looking for something more suited to the direction I wanted to go. Sue approached me during the period that I was freelancing and asked me to help her on a project, which I gladly accepted and cutting a long story short, this resulted in us chatting a great deal about her plans, my plans and a synergy sounded like the most powerful strategy.

I met Sue’s team and was introduced to their smashing Cape Stay venture – for lack of better words – I was blown away and inspired. After meeting the team and giving them a spur of the moment introduction to what’s going on in the space, it was clear that I would be a good fit for the company. Sue invited me onboard and without a hesitation, I gladly accepted. I will be assuming the position of Operations Manager with a strong focus on digital strategies, social media, community management and search engine optimization. It sounds like everything and more than I’ve ever wanted.

I am over the moon excited and have been bursting to let this news out! We have been brain storming some great ideas, which I will be sure to let you all know once they’re ready for action.

If you don’t follow your dreams and passions, you’ll (yes, you) be stuck in that desk forever.
