So today was my first real mission on my mountain bike in a very long time. Many months ago when I bought my bike I went for a ride up Tokai, but I wasn’t well equipped and it was more just to see what it was all about. I kitted myself out with some cleats, proper shoes, cycling sorts, a vest, camelpak and a few other things to ensure that I had the essentials to do things properly. Ian and Warren collected me this morning and we headed through to Tokai.
I struggled quite a bit, but mostly because of the heat. We started cycling towards 10h00 which was too late and by the time we got up 2km’s the sun was beating down on us, making it increasingly difficult to keep pushing and I had to walk a fair bit of the way. Nevertheless, I did my best to walk a bit, cool off and then get back on the bike to do some more riding. We got up fairly far and then the real fun began – the single tracks down the mountain are incredible and because it was in the middle of all the trees, it wasn’t as hot and we ended up cycling back up and doing the tracks a few times. What a blast ramping off all the drops and roots!
All in all, we did 12km’s, I unfortunately forgot to set my iPhone from the start, so I missed out a few kilometer’s in the beginning which I’m bleak about, but what can you do.
Here’s the ride:
Really did have an awesome time and I can’t wait to head out and cycle again, but this time near a location where I can do some fly fishing too.
Oh yes, grabbed a video of Ian and Warren hitting a jump:
My fiance and I have saved up and we’re slowly going to redo our kitchen. The first step we decided to go with was that of replacing the kitchen counters (and sink and taps) and I’ve snapped a few pics of before, during and after so you can have a look:

Very pleased with the outcome, next comes a new splash back, so we’ve been sampling tiles and trying to find the right mix.
Oh, if you’re interested in who we used, we used a guy called Nic. He was incredibly reliable, assisted us with recommendations on suppliers for the tops and was very well priced. If you want his details, leave a comment below and I’ll reply :)
After today I can firmly say that summer has officially started to creep into our lives – thank goodness, it seems like forever since I enjoyed a lovely day in the sun. And what goes perfectly with summer.. cocktails.
A friend of mine started a company just over a year ago where they mix and infuse cocktails that are fresh and ready to serve. Their solution is an easy pour over ice one.. it’s as simple as that. If that doesn’t make sense, here’s the drift:
You’re having a party or an event and you want cocktails – Puremix pre-mixes all the cocktails for you and delivers them in beautiful bottles ready for you to serve. I should mention that all the ingredients are fresh, this isn’t mix-a-drink stuff, it’s fresh ingredients blended together just for you. One step further, Puremix will supply eco-friendly straws and if you need compostable cups and/or crushed or cubed ice, they can arrange that too.
I arranged for Puremix to supply cocktails for my fiancé’s Birthday, they arrived in awesome bottles, tasted delicious and I’d happily order them again as their costs are very competitive. What’s better, Puremix are able to mix you a custom cocktail for your event, so if I wanted a fancy cocktail to celebrate the launch of iMod Digital, Puremix’s mix master would mix up something unique and delicious.

Have a happy weekend everyone!
In an aid to support cancer awareness, October 13th has been deemed as No Bra Day and I know that the support for this will be massive! I love the innovative ways that people come up with to support cancer awareness, it’s cheeky and it’s fun, but the underlining matter at hand is so very important.

I hereby state that tomorrow I will not wear a bra!
I’m not someone who knows everything, nor am I someone with years and years of experience when it comes to relationships, but I do feel that I’ve been around long enough to know about honour and trust. Two characteristics I look for in my friends and two characteristics I strive to achieve for myself.
In the past month I’ve run into two really awkward and upsetting situations where friends have assumed the worst of me and just gone ahead with their actions without even stopping for a second to even ask questions or hear my side of the story. I’m not going to get into details about what the situations were or who was involved, that wasn’t the point of this post, but I wanted to put it out there because I’ve not written a personal post in a long time and I felt that I may get some interesting comments and opinions on this topic. I find myself questioning whether these people are actually friends and that’s an awful question to have to ask.
What I do want to say is that when you hear something about a friend, have the respect to ask your friend whether it’s actually true. Don’t assume things – We’ve all heard it a million times, “Assumption makes an ass out of you and me” – and with that comes hurt, which may be avoidable with a simple 20 second communication.
In our lifetimes, we make many friends at school, but as the years go by, friends become fewer and it’s these few that you want to keep around and grow with. Nobody wants to get old alone, friends play such a critical part of our well-being, a life without friends is a lonely one.
PS. I received an apology from one friend who realised that there was more to the story.
PPS. The other friend has ignored me since saying, “I thought that was the case” – perhaps that was an apology, a cowardly one, but one nonetheless?
Be Good To Yourself…and Each Other! ;)
A picture of the Contento P.S. Salt and Pepper Shakers arrived in my inbox a few days ago.
Talk about reinventing an everyday (and usually mundane) kitchen essential! The shakers are designed to look like paint tubes and come with an acrylic stand. They’re also available in a bouquet of colours.
Salt and pepper will never be boring again! As well as the above colours, the tubes are available in green, purple, transparent and black and white. Retail price is around R225.
If these little beauties float your boat, you can find out more on Yuppiechef.
I’ve spoken about the 5GumExperience before and it’s always surrounded by fun and exciting things and this time is no different. Last night, Joburg and Cape Town was treated to an experience known Terror Island – a sensory stimulating bus ride – Twitter followers and Facebook dans could track the bus and jump on!
The good news is that there are two more events, taking place in in Joburg and the 26th and Cape Town on the 27th at two secret locations. A-trak and Mudson Mohawke will be blowing your mind at the events – Google them, they’re highly skilled DJs. Just like Lucky Strike, back in the day, you won’t be able to buy tickets, but rather. To get tickets, you’ll have to listen to a 3D audio journey here (desktop) or here (mobile). The app went live a couple hours ago so you’ve still got time.
Here’s some more info:
Sounds like it’s going to be a serious blast!
